Hi,I just graduated from high school and originally my plan was med school but I rlly don’t see myself going down that route anymore. Instead I’m planning to become a nurse because I’ve always wanted to work in the healthcare field & I’m extremely passionate about science & helping ppl. How difficult have you found the nursing school/program to be so far academically?? I live in Ontario btw but I will be going to uSask hopefully . Thank you!
Hey! Congrats on graduating! Nursing education definitely expects a LOT of you. I just took a peak at Usask’s program planning and they have a pre-professional year for you to get all of your science and electives out of the way, which can be very helpful going into nursing.
The biggest thing with nursing is the lack of down-time. If you’re not studying, you’re writing exams, if you’re not writing exams, you’re in clincal or lab or seminars. It is so important to find balance and time for self-care. I literally have to schedule self-care days to make sure I don’t burn out. You have to work from day one to day 100 in your semesters. There is always something you can be working on, and constantly working is (in my humble opinion) better than working for 36 hours straight before midterms and freaking out.
All that being said, I pulled a 4.0 in my first year. So I might whine and cry about it, but clearly the hard-work pays off. And if your original plan was med school, honestly you probably have the work ethic required for nursing.
TL;DR: Work early, work often, don’t cram, and you’ll be fine !
Today was my college convocation and lemme just say I wanted to be extra af wearing Filipino traditional clothing.
So this is happening. Back in 2009 i promised my self i would go back and finish my degree. Many adventures later, at the age of 29 as a single mom I am leaping off this cliff and doing it. Its not going to be easy but its going to happen. #studentlife #omgthisisamazing #thisishappening #usask #okaynextstep #whathaveidone #school (at Prince Albert, Saskatchewan)
