BOB: "Nah, Grace is probably just trying to get her to turn over information. You know Grace, that's kind of her thing. You should just ask Eve out already, you can't pine forever." ALICE, blushing: "I mean, I want to, but what if-" MALLORY barges onstage, shouting. MALLORY: "THIS IS BOB, TERMINATING CONVERSATION. THIS IS BOB, CONFIRMING TERMINATION. THIS IS BOB-" VICTOR pokes his head in.

VICTOR: "Invalid signature, messages logged." BOB: "Mallory, cut it out! You and Eve broke up years ago, get over it!" MALLORY: "THIS IS EVE, SAYING I STILL LOVE HER." BOB: "Listen Mallory. Sometimes You will love someone, but you will need to let them go. Many relationships are temporary, and that's fine. You need to move on. You and Eve had a very messy relationship, and I don't think it was making either of you happy." MALLORY: "...This is Mallory, Issuing apology." BOB pats MALLORY on the shoulder. MALLORY exits stage right. CURTAINFALL

not sure about the other streaming services, but Netflix seems to publish which films/shows are about to get removed.

so in theory, a bot could:

scrape for the announcement

check against an internal database (sometimes Netflix re-adds and re-removes stuff)

scrape a set of direct download and torrent databases for promising links

write promising links to a file for human review alongside resolution, upscaling, sound quality, size and torrent health

a review script could then display all options for each, allowing the user to select which to download.

seems like a much smaller project than some of my other ideas d:

Typescript is my go to scripting language nowadays - flexible but I can type things so I can come back to em later.

And boom - download kicked off. You can Promise.all to wait for a bunch, or have a .then callback to kick off the next one.

Pair it with something like https://quicktype.io/ and you can reverse engineer the shape of an API. I can show you my telegram/Twitter scraper if you're curious!

quicktype seems lovely though !! and it supports python and rust and c# ! gonna keep that around for future consideration regardless

have you checked out qubesos? it's a little bit resource intensive, but its design paradigm is fascinating imo

i've heard about quebes ! the containerise everything approach is pretty cool tbh ! ^w^ but i haven't tried it yet but i want to ! as well as nix and bedrock for similar reasons - nix is really just a package management system that allows the user to install specific software from specific sources w/ the exact versions of dependencies and libraries it needs and bedrock is literally a meta-distribution where you can have entire containers like an arch container and a debian container etc.

they're on my list after gentoo, slackware, artix (not that exciting but i never liked arch's move to systemd) and antiX (i got an ask about it ages ago and i still haven't got to looking into it properly)

idk abt anybody else but I expect Haskell to spark joy in me. But maybe that's because my dayjob is impure FP and the haskellers have all the cool ways to do fuckery between data structures and control flow so understanding what they're up to will directly enhance the blursedness of my code. FP takes getting one's head around but it lets you do powerful things very cleanly.

blursed code is fun code ! impure FP (or just the ability to mix approaches within different parts of a program tbh) is comfy bc it's less strict. pure FP does seem like it'd take a little adjustment, but having briefly looked at some basic haskell examples it seems way less scary and confusing than when i looked 10 years ago (definitely not baby's first language that's for sure skdlfj)

if you do try it, lmk how you get on !! might add it to my list of languages to try out (currently that has rust, porth and kitty - rust bc it's both powerful and a [particularly transfem] meme, and the others bc the concept of concatenative stack-based languages seems real fun) !
