You think, as you walk away from Le Cirque des Rêves and into the creeping dawn, that you felt more awake within the confines of the circus. You are no longer quite certain which side of the fence is the dream.

Wasteland, baby I'm in love, I'm in love with you And I love too, that love soon might end Be known in its aching Shown in the shaking
@booksociety event: villains and anti-heroes —— VILLAINS by v.e. schwab
But these words people threw around - humans, monsters, heroes, villains - to Victor it was all just a matter of semantics. Someone could call themselves a hero and still walk around killing dozens. Someone else could be labeled a villain for trying to stop them. Plenty of humans were monstrous, and plenty of monsters knew how to play at being human.

“I had hope enough to take out those old dreams again, to dust them off and give them to you.”
Rin recognized the line—it was from a poem she’d studied a lifetime ago, a lament by an Emperor whose last words became exam material for future generations.

she was no one, a girl who had lucked into a gift, who had done nothing to earn it. she was his queen.
[Image ID: Two pieces of pixel art for brian david gilbert’s dances moving. The first shows a yellow sun rising partially over two dark mountains in a blue and pink sky. The light reflects on an ocean. In a white pixellated font, the phrases “The sun is rising up half the way” and “I never thought I’d see the day” are superimposed over the ocean.
The second image shows a moon whose bottom half has crumbled into pieces and is falling to the bottom of the image. The sky behind it is a gradient goes from dark to medium blue, and stars are a yellow to pink gradient. The text at the top reads “The moon is crumbling, but that’s okay” and “I never thought I’d see the day.”]
Somehow, maybe now I’ll find the words to say / Never thought I’d see the day.

she was a queen without mercy, a figure carved in ivory and amber.
