shadow and bone gifmakers i’m begging you to be more mindful

so with the release of shadow and bone in a week there have been a lot of cool gifsets been going around and they’re all super creative and pretty and wonderful and this is great! this is amazing! but...

i keep seeing gifsets of inej jesper and alina being HORRIFYINGLY oversaturated. this is not a callout post of any particular person, i’m not interested in starting drama, and i’m not saying everyone is doing it or that you’re a horrible person for doing it but as content creators we have to be more mindful of our coloring. like i get sometimes it’s hard to notice when your coloring is oversaturated but i’ve been seeing so many of these gifsets on my dash lately and i just can’t keep quiet anymore.

like i’m not saying you can’t make a gif that’s just like one-tone of red and orange so everything in that set is red/orange/yellow. that’s not weird in any way because that’s the whole gif and it’s clearly just creative color grading

but the issue is with edits that are colored like this:

now these are a bit messily colored and just screencaps for the sake of time but jesper is WAY oversaturated here and i’m not exaggerating when i say i’ve seen gifs like these on my dash. this is not cute.

right there side by side so you can see the difference. again this is a bit messily colored and grainy because i’m lazy right now but even with my laziness it’s EASY to fix! super easy! so easy, in fact, that it took me one layer.

most of the time, this is all you need. the number is arbitrary but just add a bit of cyan to your reds! 

here’s a more in depth tutorial on how to fix orange washing. the same tips apply to alina and inej and zoya and all the other characters of color on the show. like again i’m not trying to start shit it’s just important to be mindful of the way we color poc 

with that go forth and make tons of sexy shadow and bone gifs just please don’t do the actors of color like this! mwah
