Norsery Rhymes from A to Z Bergusia, Craftsmen Goddess of the Mount Happy Thorsday! - Here’s another 20 min sketch of a Norse (and Germanic, Celtic) mythological characters. This week it’s the Matrons Bergusia Guardian Goddesses of Alesia on Mt. Auxois in Burgundy that was know for it’s healing and metalwork. Some consider her a related though more singular Roman-Celtic version of the Berguasiahenae, though there is no record to indicate they are related other than both having similar names meaning mountain. Which was a common way to start many Goddess names in elevated towns. Though it’s possible one inspired the other. The Goddess of the Mount. A god of craftsmen, who was part of a Divine couple, with her Consort of Ucetis (The Forger, the Sharpener, the Striker) who was likely a god of Metalworkers. Found mentioned alongside Ucetis and Remus, son of Primus, in their temple likely dedicated to metal craftsmanship. She is mentioned on a bronze vase, that likely indicates her connection to that type of craft. While the Healer Gods Apollo Moritasgus and his match Damona, was mentioned in other parts of the town.
Bergusia is the only god that is only mentioned in Alesia.
