“are you running away from me or running to another?”
i turned as i heard the quick words from my friend in between their pants for air in the shrill cold of winter. i looked at them in confusion, tilting my head. the snowflakes around us swirled, almost begging us to keep running. it created a kind of.. quiet atmosphere. the moonlight shined off of the glistening fresh snow of mid winter.
“what?” i quickly asked, stopping my long, quick strides.
“are you running away from me. or running towards another?” they reiterated.
“i. i don’t..” i stammered, not being able to find the words to answer what they were questioning. they quickly sighed, the cold air around them quickly becoming warm, turning into a faint fog in the coldness around them.
”you always run, so why do you do it? are you running from me? or is there someone you’re looking for??”
i stood there in silence for a moment. quick footsteps were slowly heard getting closer, the snow making it easier to hear the quick, irrational footsteps of the other following us. the crunch of the snow was unnerving, as it had isolated the sound not seconds before.
”answer the damn question or run!” my friend demanded, words quickly gaining volume, more then definitely catching the attention of our follower.
“im just.. running, i suppose!”
