@usmelinuk: What have you been doing for the last month that was more exciting than answering questions? ;D

The end of September/beginning of October is always crazy for me, so my blog ends up taking the back-burner 😅 But this year has been especially wild. My birthday was at the beginning of October (yay), we’ve been prepping for a large event at work & having some serious management issues, IRL family troubles, etc. It’s been hectic, but I’m still here~!

Settling down to write a 7th sea campaign for the saturday gang over the holidays.

I think I've got a couple of major plot points to string between for our band of: 3 montaign nobles at varying levels of wonderful extra, 1 montaign man with a shady past, 1 eisen whose here for drinking fighting and adventure, and 1 voddace whose social climbing with sass, charm, and a sword

We'll see how they deal with secret plots, sorcery, pirates, love, rivalry, fashion, fates, fae, mysterious ruins, and maybe even success

While I’m well aware I should be editing my thesis (hopefully for the final time) I’m also super down to write a campaign for mouse guard for @hollystone @usmelinuk and @anewbiegm and the rest of the Saturday crew.

Cute woodland critters going on epic adventures is really appealing to me at the moment!

Ran my first game of call of Cthulhu last night with Hollystone, USmelinuk, anewbiegm, and Mr Irons from our through the breach game,

and I loved it, for my first ever encounter with the system it was pretty easy to get to grips with especially with some help from everyone playing. I took them to a little town in Texas to see a cult about a priest.

we had;

Professor of not spotting things Danforth Winters

Laughs were had, sanity was lost, but the group of misfits managed to escape the body horror and town into the night tightly hanging on to each-other and their remaining sanity points.

A long time ago, in a galaxy right here

It feels like it has been a lifetime since I asked corruptionpoints​ for some advice on what to run for usmelinuk​‘s nieces - one 10 and the other 13. 

We settled on running FFG’s Star Wars: Edge of the Empire - they’re both Star Wars fans, one is more of an obsessive than a fan.

Plans where made and fell apart, people were ill, but finally we managed to get together. 

- A Twi’lek Smuggerl/Thief played by the eldest; she’s somewhat shy but is already getting into her character and role.

- A second Twi’lek - that caused one or two arguments - Explorer/Fringer played by the youngest of the two. She dove straight into the game and was in character before we’d finished the introduction. She also took ‘Bounty’ as her Obligation and was horrified to learn her favourite aunt was rolling up a Bounty Hunter.

- A Chiss Bounty Hunter/Gadgeteer played by usmelinuk to help them out. 

We’re running through the Debts to Pay, Game Master’s Kit adventure which involves helping out Bargos the Hutt recover some credits. 

So far, the Fringer has managed to nearly start a fight by insulting Bargos the Hutt, told off his majordomo for lying to her as she “Didn’t spend all this time studying Xenology to be lied to. I know exactly what I’m talking about!”. Finally, she tried to persuade the other Twi’lek to help her out so she could avoid being captured by the Bounty Hunter. 

The Thief - as mentioned - started off a little shy but warmed up a fair amount; at one point she threatened the Toydarian majordomo by jabbing a blaster pistol into his face and then went onto try to blackmail the fluttering pest. 

Without going into any more adventure spoilers, we wrapped up the session part way through and will hopefully finish it off next time they’re round. 

They both seem to enjoy it - the whole “five more minutes, pleeeeeeaaaaaassssseeeee!!!”

It was a lot of fun to run for them and I’m looking forward to playing another time.

Operation humming bird II: A small flightless bird

I had fun running a little one-shot 7th sea game (which was actually a one shot for once! despite my best efforts to run my usual 5-session-one-shot) for our only war and unhallowed metropolis group tonight as the Gm who was running our current story was ill today.

We had

Mathilde Laurence - The Montaigne Tout-pres swordswoman, sailor, and higher class member of the group. Played by usmelinuk.

Calum o’Riordan - An Avalonian goodfellow whose bardic etiquette came in handy along with his sense of humor. Played by anewbiegm.

and

Jacques - Montaigne criminal and Bouchier knife fighter, who used his contacts general knowledge of the underworld and people skills to help out the party.

The party set out for shore leave and after some arrow and drinking based shenanigans from Calum endearing himself to the locals they ended up being roped into a rescue mission to retrieve kidnapped Nobel child (Alphonse Du Montillia) from the local Baron who had taken “custody” of the child in a power play to gain power and lands in the complex game of Montaigne politics.

The band of sailors carried out some thorough planning and came across a plan. They would walk Alphonse out under his kidnappers very nose during the masked ball! 

The sailors posing as peasants got themselves employed as servants thanks to Jack’s contacts and Matilde’s fashion knowledge.

They employed a similarly sized child a serving boy Gaston from the inn and with the party and Gaston all decked out in servants clothes and masks they infiltrated a masked ball.

After serving drinks and generally adopting the guise of servants, Gaston changed back into his civilian clothes and left the sailors with the child sized servants clothes.

With some careful reconnaissance from Jack, the party climbed one of the trees outside the house. They surprised the guard, beating him down with Calum’s vigorous taunting, Jack’s dazzling knife work, and Matilde’s beer mug eventually tying him up in some curtains and knocking him unconscious. With the guard out cold and hidden under the bed they then disguised the Noble son Alphonse as a servant and stole away into the night, returning him to his mother.

Payed handsomely for their efforts and ensuring that there was only the minimum of bloodshed the party can now enjoy the festivities and find the next exciting (and slightly slap-stick) adventure!

Piratey Fun

Our current Unhallowed Metropolis game had to take a short break today as the GM is off sick with the flu/plague. 

Instead, thewenglishwarlock stepped up to run one of the innumerable 7th Sea games that always seem to be floating in his head. 

usmelinuk, myself and another friend teamed up to rescue the young heir of a minor Montaigne noble family after he’d been kidnapped in an attempt to take control of that families holdings. 

The group was a slightly odd mix of usmelinuk playing Mathilde Laurence, a Montaigne ‘privateer’ and enthusiastic student of the Tout Prés swordsman school - this one involves smashing any and all nearby objects into unsuspecting victim’s faces. 

Myself finally playing a Goodfellow student named Calum o’Riordan - an Avalonian ‘swordsman’ school focusing on the bow - something I’ve wanted to play for a while in 7th Sea.

Finally, our friend playing Jacques, the orphaned Montaigne smuggler and all round criminal. 

It was a fun session, involving violence, drunkeness, gambling, violence, climbing, violence and rescue and sadly saw me getting to us my fantastic Goodfellow school only once - Tagging in order to correct a drunken Montaigne of his attitude towards Queen Elaine of Avalon. 

There’s a possibility of an Unhallowed Metropolis session to make up for today on Tuesday, so I’m looking forward to that.
