USNA crew training for the 1960 Olympics in Rome
(James Whitmore. 1960)
Rolex … Walter “Wally” Schirra After the combined Gemini VIa & VII spaceflight mission, the 4 astronauts were awarded a Rolex GMT-master 1675 “pepsi” bezel pilot watch during a ceremony at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis – Maryland. While Walter Schirra, James Lovell and Thomas Stafford were Naval Academy graduates, US Air Force Major Frank Borman also got a Rolex GMT-master around that time via the US Military Academy West Point. During 1967, Schirra, Lovell and Borman often wore their GMT-master pilot watch during NASA training. Late 1966 onwards, we see Schirra developed a keen interest in Rolex watches, as besides NASA spacesuit training, he was always wearing his GMT-master or even a Rolex Daytona 6240 chronograph. He has always been a wrist watch aficionado as we know he at least wore a dozen different watches between April 9, 1959 and November 25, 1969. U.S. Naval Academy’s 65th Superintendent Vice Adm.Yvette Davids, and Col. James McDonough, Commandant of Midshipmen, congratulates Midshipman 4th Class Ben Leisegang, 20 years old, of Rancho Santa Margarita, California, after placing the midshipman cover atop the Herndon monument. USNA freshmen, or plebes, climb the Herndon Monument, a tradition symbolizing the successful completion of the midshipmen’s freshman year. The class of 2027 completed the climb in 2 hours, 19 minutes and 11 seconds.

i have this headcanon in my head that one day, when bradley was in his final year at usna, that ice showed up. in the middle of some form of lecture that bradley was sitting in on, ice came in and of course everyone shut up and is shitting their pants because why the fuck is the compacflt there but all he did was pass a paper to the captain giving the lecture, and turn to leave. he stopped when he accidentally caught bradley’s eye in the crowd, and everyone started to look at bradley who immediately stiffened. again, everyone is like why the fuck is the iceman making eye contact with bradshaw and why isn’t he cowering away?? ice turned on his heel and walked out, and everyone started whispering but then the lecture was over sooo… i like to think that this was the only interaction they ever had after he left and before after the uranium plant mission :)
Oh. My. God.
I love this! And picture Jake Seresin wearing these and then ending up on the Vigilantes 😍
