Stupid Things Around the Bodega
Warnings: Nothing just amateur writing, indescribable feelings and all around stupid.
Note: If there's any typos, I'm so sorry. Thanks for the support from the last two fics. I'll try to make them better and make more:)))

“Y/N GIVE IT BACK!” her friend Usnavi said. “What, this?” Y/N said with a cheeky smile on her face as she ran into the shelves. Y/N and Usnavi had been friends for a really long time. In fact, they’ve been friends since they were in diapers. They both grew up in the same place called Washington Heights. She visits the bodega almost every day or everyday and they talk about the things and gossip going on in the barrio or the usual, doing stupid things around the bodega.
“Y/N, seriously, give it back now”, Usnavi said from the front of the detergent shelf.
“Nah, I don’t think so”, Y/N said as she ran into another place where there was cover.
She then placed the cap on her head and ran around again. This went on for fifteen minutes til’ Usnavi heard a thump.
“Y/N are you ok?” He saw Y/N on the floor. “I think so”, she said. Y/N tried standing up, but instead she tipped over and fell into Usnavi. As they were falling, Usnavi placed his hand on her back because of his instincts, but lost his balance making them fall to the floor.
“OW, Y/N?!, What’d you do that for?” he said.
“I DIDN’T DO ANYTHING… I- I think I sprained my ankle”, she said wearily.
As they were chatting on the floor, the two then realized their position. Usnavi had an arm around her and Y/N was lying on his chest. Usnavi then started to feel warmth and have a pink tint on his cheeks. Y/N then just stared at him for a second and felt that it was wrong being on his chest and said, “Yo, help me up.”
“uh..yeah, sure”, Usnavi said feeling his cheeks tint. Then he asked “Can I carry you to the counter?”
Y/N answered with a nod and with that she was carried bridal style to the counter. He placed her there in a sitting position facing him. He then said, “Immma go find some ice.” He then went to the back of the bodega. As she was left there and was left with her thoughts. She then started thinking of the scene a while ago. She swears she saw Usnavi’s cheeks turn red.
No, no, NO that is just ridiculous…
I mean he is funny, one of my best friends, strong, handsome, cute, and….
OH NO, WE’VE GONE OVER THIS. He is simply a friend and being a friend, right?
And what the hell is taking him so long…
She then got so bored and she started singing while waiting. A few minutes later, Usnavi emerges from the backroom.
“I was looking for ice and a towel.”
“Should’ve just asked me, I know the place like the back of my hand.”
“Shut up.” He said playfully.
Usnavi then went to get the ice he got and wrapped it in a towel. He then started to tend Y/N’s ankle.
“You know this is your fault right.”
“PFFFFT, ME? I fell because of that stupid cart of milk I didn’t frickin see on the floor.” She said with a 5-year old’s sassy tone.
“Ya know, all you had to do was give it back,” he said. “I believe this belongs to me.” He then took the cap off Y/N’s head. She then made a “hmph” sound that made Usnavi laugh and have a victorious smile on his face and made Y/N lighten up a bit.
“Do you want a drink?” He asked.
“Coffee, just coffee.” She answered.
As Usnavi made the coffee, they chatted more and more and eventually got into the topic of relationships.
“Hey, remember when you dated Yolanda?” Y/N asked.
“Yeah, one of the worst people I’ve ever dated, ever. Why’d I even like her?”
Y/N then answered, “Boobies, you liked her cause of her boobies.”
“HAha, very funny.” Usnavi answered back.
“Anyways, anyone you like from the barrio these days?” Y/N asked.
“You’re sounding like the ladies from the salon.” Usnavi said with such a tone.
“What can I say, I grew up with them and now I love gossip. So, do you have any?”
“Im’ma just describe her.” Usnavi said. “Beautiful hair, dresses pretty, has beautiful skin, a cute face, and is a friend of mine.”
You were hurt for some reason. You didn’t know why but you felt hurt. The answer came to your head and obviously it was Vanessa. All those features and descriptions fit her just right; Beautiful hair, dresses pretty, has beautiful skin, a cute face, and is a friend of his. It’s obviously her. You then hid your emotions and faked a smile as he turned around.
“Thanks…”, you answered him somberly. As you were drinking, he started to ask a question.
“If I wanted to confess to her, what would I say or do? What do you suggest hmm?”
“I don’t know. Why ask me?”
“Cause you’re my best friend.” That statement gave you a bittersweet and mixed emotion.
Although Y/N was his best friend, Y/N felt like she wanted to be more to him, but she didn’t know what. As you got lost in your thooughts again, Y/N then came into a conclusion. You liked him. That was the only answer to your confused feelings for him. Y/N liked him but, she didn’t want to break whatever their status with each other is right now which is being his best friend. Now she’s thinking of a way to answer this.
“I say just talk to her and make it smooth. I don’t know.”
“What do you mean like ‘smooth’?” he questioned.
“Like don’t let her see it coming or maybe ask her if she wants coffee and as you guys are drinking, start saying something.” Y/N ended. It felt good and bad to give him advice. She just wished it was her he liked.
Usnavi then started to ask again, “Okay…So, when should I do it? Sooner or later?”
“Sooner of course, you don’t want her to be taken by someone else don’t ya?” Y/N answered in such an oblivious way.
“Okay so first ask her if she wants coffee and then confess?” He asked.
“Yes, that way it won’t be as obvious or seem like it’s something big.”
“Okay then, want a refill?” She didn’t realize her coffee was running out.
“Sure.” Y/N said with a small smile.
As he took the cups, Y/N was lost in her thoughts again. She thought about how she just played herself and how she was going to lose her best friend to another girl. As the coffee was being re-heated, he turned around and faced you.
“Yes, I’m right here?” You said in a confused tone while looking at him like he was dumb.
“I know that, but I have something to tell you.”
You then answered, “What is it then?”
He breathed a bit of air and then started. “Y/N we’ve been friends for a long ass time. You’ve been with me since I don’t know, my whole life? You always came here and we’re always together at least once a day. Even when my parents died, you were there to comfort me. You always have kept me company especially when I’m lonely.
“ First of all, thanks I guess and ok, wow that was sappy. Second of all, where are you going with this?” She asked confused.
“I’M GETTING THERE, wow you are dense.” Usnavi said.
“JEEZ, Okay go on...” She said with a tone.
“You were always there for me. You’ve never left me alone even during tough times. I always look forward to when you come here and chat with me. Your presence just makes my day honestly.
“What are you trying to say? Do you want me to leave?” she asked.
In Usnavi’s mind he was just thinking, “Dios mio, she’s so dense.”
“Well, what I’m trying to say is, I want to be more than friends. I see no one else but you to fit in my life. To me, you are the perfect girl in my dreams. I like—I love you so much. You wanna go out sometime?” He finished.
Y/N sat there in the counter in doubt and shocked. She then thought, “Damn he got me quick”.
She then recovered from her previous state and asked dumbly, “Really? You like me?”
“Did you really just ask that after my whole speech?” Usnavi shot quickly looking at you like you were stupid and dumb.
“WELL, I WANTED TO MAKE SURE, jeez”, Y/N said in a playfully loud tone.
That made Usnavi laugh so loud, the people outside the bodega could probably hear his war laugh.
“Si pendeja. So, what’s your answer?”
Y/N then took his face and kissed him. Usnavi was first surprised, but later on melted into the kiss.
“I’ll take that as a yes.” He said and gave a warm smile.
They both just stared into each other eyes stupidly until you heard, “OI! They finally got together.” Y/N heard the voice and recognized it. Then a man followed and shouted "WEPAAAA". It was Daniela and the Piraguero.
Usnavi then started talking, “Oh no, the whole barrio already knows.”
“Well, the queen of gossip just saw us kissing. What do you think will happen?’’ Y/N said like a “know-it-all.”
“Gossip and a bunch of teasing, but hey, who cares at least I got you and your stupid butt before anyone else did…”
