There was a USS Janeway in episode 5 of Star Trek: Discovery and I had to pause the show for 10 mins to update my non-Trekkie family. This included telling them how far my homegirl had come and how proud I was of her.

So I love being a part of fandom groups on Facebook. I'm a part of numerous ones oriented towards fans of things like comics, Star Wars, Star Trek, The Expanse, etc. And the one thing I've noticed is that groups that are specific to people who identify as a woman or non-binary are just on a whole less toxic. They're typically more open minded and accepting of things, and are less racist/homophobic. And it's such a breathe of fresh air.
