A Grumman F6F Hellcat from USS RANDOLPH (CV-15), is engulfed in flames with pilot still aboard, after making an emergency landing on USS YORKTOWN (CV-10). The crew extinguished the flames enough to allow pilot to get out.
Note: the crew is likely asbestos suits as the material is naturally fire resistant.

"She had been on deployment to the Mediterranean for six months of Fleet and NATO exercises and returned to the Norfolk Navy Yard for installation of an angled flight deck and other modernizations."
