Memorial Day Weekend 2018 brings the annual celebration of Fleetweek NYC 2018 to city where our brave men and women from the Navy, Marines and Coast Guard come to spend a few days onboard their vessels. They proudly parade through New York Harbor, up the Hudson River before docking at their designated port throughout the five boroughs which I was fortunate to witness for the third time. 2018 marked the 30th iteration of this event in New York City since 1984, as there have been a few years that the activity has been cancelled, the most recent being in 2013 because government ‘Sequestration Brought Cancellation’. In 2018 the Manhattan piers hosted the USS Arlington (LPD-24) from Naval Station Norfolk. This image is of the USS Arlington a San Antonio-Class amphibious transport dock or Dock Landing Ships (LPD) that specifically support amphibious operations. The ships company will include up to 22 officers, 397 enlisted and a Marine Detachment of 300 which will surge by 102 when in a combat situation. In the case of the USS Arlington, the Marine detachment came from Camp Lejeune North Carolina. #bhportdev @bheventspace #fleetweeknyc #fleetweeknyc2018 @usnavy #ussarlington @timeoutnewyork
