uta koi (2012)
what is it with characters voiced by koyasu takehito and flowers?
Since I mentioned it in my previous Ask,
I highly recommend the Uta Koi anime (or manga) to anyone interested in Heian era Tanka poetry!!
It’s a loose anthology series covering some of the many love poems found in the Hyakkunin Isshu of karuta fame, and the various romantic stories of the poets behind them. Just a really lovely Josei series.
Now I wish merely for a way to tell you not by hearsay, face to face, that I will surely give up my thoughts of you.
今はただ思ひ絶えなむとばかりを人づてならで言ふよしもがな
Ima wa tada / omoitaenan / to bakari wo / hito-zute narade / ifu yoshi mogana
An inevitable and final farewell. Makes me think just how devastating the poem could be in Chihayafuru.
Hyakunin Isshu 63: Fujiwara no Michimasa (as always, link to the poem analysis is in the notes below)
Uta Koi. 2013 calendar set 4koma booklet
Chouyaku Hyakunin Isshu: Uta Koi (超訳百人一首 うた恋い), volumes 1-4 by Kei Sugita
love letter from someone who is reluctant to give in love letter from you who have left tears
Oh, this brings me back, because I actually know this poem. It is one of my favorite poems from the Hyakunin Isshu, which I discovered thanks to Uta Koi:
The eps where they tell the story behind the poem is one of my favorites eps too (this particular poem is in eps 7). Go watch the anime if you’re interested!
