the valentines I got from the newsletter… so glad I got undyne thanks toby 🙏🏼
oh huh if the page refreshes after you verify signing up for the newsletter folks have things to say
is this anything
even though berdly is a pretty obnoxious dude I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and a chance for growth considering what he goes through during literally anything other than pacifist run. like Queen, he’s more focused on his own perception of noelle than what noelle’s actually trying to say to him (and he’s also pretty self-centered with his own hang-ups), but also like Queen he genuinely cares about her (+ the others) and is willing to put himself through a lot for their sake (severely fucking up his arm in neutral route, refusing to run in weird route).
in a way, it kind of reminds me of alphys--in the most peaceful routes, when there’s a lot of other people who can take care of things (and, to some extent, pick up her slack or push her towards the right direction), she’s a pretty consistent level of Disaster. not irredeemable, not malicious, but she kind of has more room to stay at that level of--and I say this with love--being a total mess. And if Undyne and/or Mettaton are killed in a neutral run, Alphys disappears. The neutral Alphys ending only happens on a partial no mercy run; when she’s inspired by Undyne the Undying, when there’s urgency and there’s no one else to take charge, she reveals the true lab by her own will, evacuates everyone, and leads the survivors.
I think it’s interesting from a meta perspective of what it takes to unlock a character’s potential; they can access what’s arguably a more developed version of themselves when pushed to the limit, but they still grow and change when the stakes are low, just at a slower rate. to some extent, it’s good that they’re safe enough to get the chance to be obnoxious and clumsy.
