Words of Honey
So now I’m calm but for a long time I was entirely feral, because Americanadianvago/ @ilovefictiontoomuch has given me a gift of an Earthbound chapter and akjfbapoifhoaeihfoaiehf I am having trouble processing emotions
Summary: ‘Feliciano is six and he thinks people sound wrong.‘
Word Count: 1244
Characters: North Italy and slight South Italy
------------
Feliciano is six and he thinks people sound wrong. He always has. He used to cry when anybody spoke to him, so much that the only one who could actually speak to him without inciting a tear fest was his big brother, Romano. But even then he just got grumpy and looked at him weirdly, as if expecting to hear something else whenever he opened his mouth.
Feli isn’t sure what exactly he’s looking for, just that it’s never there. The sounds that emit from everyone’s mouths are off in a way he can’t explain. Maybe that’s due to lack of vocabulary or maybe it's something else. Feliciano thinks it's something else. He doesn’t think he’ll be able to explain it even when he’s big and knows all the long, important words.
Sometimes he makes little noises to himself, testing different sounds and trying to find the ones that curl sweetly around his tongue and hum in his ears like the old songs that his mom sometimes sings for him. He remembers the pure wonder that filled him as his mother hummed a lullaby called Ninna Nanna. She didn’t know the words, but she knew the tune and that was enough to make him feel...not sad, something else. He didn’t have the word for it. The soft tune was familiar and quickly became his favorite lullaby, nearly asking for his mom to sing it for him every night.
The only sound he found that had that honey quality was ‘ve’. He doesn’t know what it means, but he says it as often as he can. Feliciano’s parents don’t question it, since it makes him happy, but his brother asked where he’d heard it from. Feli tries to explain his distaste for words and how he spent hours looking for a word like ‘ve’, but as always words fail him. He thinks Romano understands anyway.
Feliciano is eight and he thinks that the words that everyone speaks are clunky and rough. They don’t fit together, like they’re all different pieces of different puzzles that weren’t made to work together. They’re off and he doesn't like listening to them, which means he drifts off into his own head often enough that he’s sometimes called air-headed.

The Origin of Love is about the Aristophanes speech in Plato’s Symposium that describes humans as originally composed of two people stuck together, and so it defines love is the desire of soulmates who were divided in half to reunite.
everyone else: goes on and on about what a legendary hero link is and nothing else

seb: you know what I think of you?
seb: you've never met a comb in your life, you have no idea that first aid exists beyond literally licking your wounds like an animal, and you're an unpredictable wave of chaos in fights. you're sometimes more feral creature than a civilized hylian man. if there's anyone who could survive in the wilds with no societal comforts at all, I'd expect it to be you.
seb: but you're also great at cooking, horses love you, and you make the harmonica sound beautiful. you see the world in a way no one else does, and that's endlessly fascinating to me. and there's a softness to you underneath everything else that i'm beyond privileged to bear witness to.
seb: so, y'know. you're a person, not a paragon. that's what I enjoy most about you: who you are, not just what you do.

Thats entirely fair, I was somewhat laughing at the canon design there about the curl thing.
The curl, poor Scotland's curl, I just wanna... tug it off 🤏
But maybe that's what Hima's going for! Slyly marking relation with minimal explanation or detail. Doesn't canon England also have a random strand of long hair? 🤔
