Last year, on August 1, 2016, a solemn ceremony marked the 50th anniversary of America's first mass shooting. On that day 51 years ago, Charles Whitman took rifles, pistols, and a sawed-off shotgun to the tower. 17 people died; 30 more were injured. Ironically, that same day last year saw the beginning of Texas' campus carry law, allowing those with concealed handgun licenses to carry weapons into public university buildings, including those on the UT campus. Much of the factulty, staff, administration, and students opposed the law. Oh well. Law makers are going to do whatever law makers want to do, regardless of what the people want. #uttower #outoftouch #disconnected #austin (at University of Texas Tower)
