Okay, so I was playing Shades of Justice, the UTY mod, and I ran into a bug that just made me laugh. Martlet was my follower and I decided to talk to her while hiding from the sandstorm. She goes, "Man the winds are powerful. But at least you're safe under cover, right?" And then the game crashed as the sandstorm engulfed her.

It felt like fate, a mechanical expression of what narratively happened. Martlet fumcking died? She was stolen away by the sands and the universe ended? Clover watches as their bird friend is consumed by grains of earth and forced a load?

Idk why, but this little event was really funny to me.

Today I somehow broke the battle system, even though i didnt touch it.

This happens after 1 turn, (regardless of the battle) and I don't know why or how!

I don't know what's going on!

Has anyone else encountered this?

Edit: Just to be clear, this is a MODDED version of undertale yellow

The mod specifically is something I'm working on, and this bug came about as a result of me doing something in the code somewhere. That's what I'm trying to figure out.

Now that I'm moving on from this mod idea I thought I would upload a video of the dialogue/cutscenes I wrote and the minor way the mod changes the game. Outside of the video it was just fixing flags and making sure the game treated you as if you were on the neutral route even if the geno.complete[3] flag was set as true.

You can probably see why while the idea was neat I didn't feel like there was much of a point in doing more with this on its own.

So I finished UTY: shades of justice and overall, a great mod. I love the character writing and I thought the hangout scenes were great. The narrative choices it makes is the obvious strong point but the mechanical and gameplay choices are still great. I was really impressed by the way followers were incorporated into the combat with follower actions and the ways they modified how to spare certain enemies.

I did have a sense of imbalance/purposefully loose threads that makes me hope for an update/further expansion but that just might be my own optimism talking. I'd understand if they wouldn't do it, the mod is solid without expanding further, but I trust Zendertroop and other writers with any other decisions they make.

As much as I recognize the good design in uty of having the Check act being in a separate thing compared to the other acts (programmers don't want to constantly reinvent the wheel after all), I do still find it super annoying because it makes my goal to make each one unique much more difficult.

I've been having fun with my mod, but at this point I think it's more of an exercise to learn gml than anything interesting to complete? While I was initially intersted in modding in an option to be able to abandon no mercy route during the starlo duel, I don't think there's much more interesting things to do/add. Otherwise little reason for anyone else to play. I've been thinking trying to make another mod. Either one adding unique battle (to force myself to learn the entire uty battle system) or a ng+ mode that changes acts and routes (which would force me to learn a little of the battle system but would focus on narrative changes). Idk, I'm sure just like writing modders are swamped by ideas so I'm just not sure which would be most "worth" my time.
