Saw the JC toxic masculinity post and it reminded me of how many ppl like genuinely just purposefully misunderstand his character. Like there is literal textual proof of the opposite. It's "Jiang Cheng is a bad uncle" all over again except I saw a post saying that last week... when can my baby rest. OUGH.

The thing that kills me the most is that Jiang Cheng is supposed to parallel his mom. That’s his whole thing- he’s the whip wielding, short tempered, famed cultivator, romantically unsatisfied copy of his mom. Masculinity has very little to do with his character! He isn’t tortured by trying to preform masculinity, he’s tortured by grief, by the loss of his loved ones, by the burden of running a sect all alone, by the expectations placed on him by his mother’s name. If anything he falls into a lot of woman archetypes, at least from western literary perspective. You know who does have a toxic masculinity thing going on? Wei fucking Wuxian! But some of y’all aren’t ready to get into that.
