HI!!!!!
What's your favorite Nation/Tribe (southern water or northern or whatever) in Avatar the Last Airbender?
HI CURSED!!!!!
Okay so, I find all the nations interesting, because they all are in their own right!!
But, I find the Southern Water Tribe so so interesting, they’re extremely resilient, all their men of the tribe are gone, and especially during the genocide of waterbenders were they resilient, working together to incapacitate the Fire Nation ship, and the woman who basically invented bloodbending was from the Southern Water Tribe. They’ve figured out a way of living when such an important part of their culture was (almost) wiped out. And you’re completely right about the attire and how in-depth it is, I especially love Sokka’s battle attire, with the wolf features incorporated. (i might be biased in loving the water tribes but can you really blame me????)
Nation wise, all three other nations are so so complex that i seriously can’t choose; the Fire Nation with their honour, order, royalty, discipline, and their way of living has been the same for so long under Ozai’s rule. You can see the flaws of the Fire Nation in Book 3, the skewed teachings leading to misinformation and misconceptions about the rest of the world but when you look at the attire and geography you can’t help but admire it.
The Earth Nation is so defined with their structure, Ba Sing Se being a prime example of that structure, a nearly impenetrable city with rings of classes, and the community within those rings are quite strong. When the Gaang face off Earth Nation soldiers, those soldiers work as one, heavily interlinked and little need for communication due to that structure, the reason the Gaang was able to get passed was from fighting the same way, as one. The attire for the Earth Nation have a lot more squares I noticed, it isnt much in the attire but it’s something.
The Air Nation!!!! UGGHHH I LOVE THE AIR NATION!!!!!!!
The most we have of how the Air Nation works is by the way Aang works. The Air Nation is versatile, similar to the Southern Water Tribe, they are resilient, the war and genocide against the Air Nomads waged for so long, but they still persisted; the Air Nomads were also notably pacifists, as Aang tells during the school episode in Book 3. An example of their (or in this case, Aang’s) versatility woukd be with his attire; I don’t quite remember which fight it is, but Aang’s Air Nomad robes were damaged. I know this took place in Book 3, because there was a section dedicated to Aang reconnecting with his culture through his appearance. He shaves his head to proudly show his arrows, he trades the Fire Nation robes he had been wearing for his damaged robes, but he changes them. He salvages what he can and still has something practical by the end (I can’t exactly describe the robes but he looks so cool trust trust). This can be positively compared to the Fire Nation with their honour. Aang and Zuko both have pride within wearing their robes, this is most prominent of Zuko in Book 1 and Aang Book 3. The Earth Nation and the Air Nomads are an interesting mix, opposites, most definitely; but we still saw the friendship between Aang and Bumi in Book 2, and with the help of Bumi the Gaang were able to navigate Ba Sing Se, both Nations share community, helping and guiding one another in the right direction, with little to no benefit of their own.
Sooo uhh yeah! My favourite tribe is the Southern Water Tribe but I love all the nations :3c
