"why are there so many mcyt 'alters'? that must mean people are faking"

this is a claim/comment I've seen in multiple places (outside of tumblr, I stay in my cozy place here), and while I don't have any mcyt introjects myself... I do see how they could be easily and commonly introjected.

oftentimes mcyters and the characters they portray blend "real person" and "fictional character" in a way that makes it easy to get attached to them. Think of all the parasocial relationships that end up happening in some of the fandoms - and I'm not saying parasocial relationships are GOOD, but they do happen. It can feel like you're right there with that person or character they portray.

additionally, mcyters and streamers are often a comfort in bad times. speaking solely from a disordered and/or traumagenic plurality perspective (which is not the only way to be a system), let's say a child or a system is going through trauma. one of their only escapes is opening up youtube or twitch and watching their favorite streamer. talking in chat, watching a story and character unfold. wouldn't that make it likely that they may form an introject of that person or character to help them in difficult times? Someone they look up to who they believe to be able to handle their situation better.

another thing I saw once that kind of made me think: "why are there so many x YouTuber alters?" But you have to step back and realize - these YouTubers are SO popular, and most of the people who would be introjecting them spend at least a good bit of time online. So, chances are, they'll post about it, if they're the kind of person to share those things.

additionally, some specific mcyters may be a great comfort to these people, more than others. I'm taking Technoblade as an example. (while some of the stuff I've seen has seemed a bit insensitive to his death, that's for another time). Technoblade was an AMAZING person, and the way he handled his hardships was truly admirable. speaking solely from a traumagenic plurality perspective again - a system or person is going through horrible abuse, for example. They can't handle it, but their brain goes, oh, you know who could? this amazing, brave, person who has endured so much, and still keeps his head high.

And yes there will be people faking but it's not in our right to fakeclaim every person with a specific source for an alter. even if they post about it, even if they choose to cosplay or make a silly video. If they're spreading BLATANT misinformation about disordered plurality, maybe something can be done. but I don't think posting them to a cringe subreddit to mock them is very helpful in the long run. neither is being needlessly rude or sending harassment and threats.

but this isn't about people being fake. It's just that I understand how mcyt alters could be easily formed and relatively common.

I'm not proofreading, so if there's anything wrong with any of this, let me know. and ofc you're free to disagree and even express that disagreement - I can't speak for everyone (or anyone really) with these specific fictives or factives

while being turned doesn't revert you back to Actual Human Infancy, it definitely is vampire infancy. it's not safe for a hatchling to be from their sire, so distance tends to cause feelings of anxiety, distress, and general sense of impending doom. (also generally you LIKE your sire. so.)

hatchling is 0-30 days turned. fledgling is 0-200 years, but also a sire can forever call their fledgling that. think how you can't call a human a kid after a while, but they're their parents' kid. experienced vampires are 200+ years, and elder vampires are 1000+ years.

if a fledgling is separated from their sire before 200 years, it can cause some stunted development. if a hatchling is separated from their sire, it can very easily result in death or severely stunted development.

for the first 7-10 days, hatchlings can only consume their sire's blood. this is done by the sire eating double what they normally would, and then the hatchling feeds from them in a process known as siphoning. while it is best for a hatchling to consume their sire's blood, any experienced vampire (200+) will do. if there is no experienced vampire, just any vampire older than the hatchling.

hatchlings need to sleep in a nest for a month after turning. it's very common (+ healthy!!!) for them to knock right out for several days after turning. nest sleeps are very deep and long, and it's during this time when hatchlings stabilize and grow in their fangs, blood-clotting spit, numbing venom, etc.

a nest is generally made by the sire, or whoever is caring for the hatchling. it can't really be easily done by anyone else, because it forms a bond between the two vampires. bonds are very important, and there's lots of kinds, but the main ones are sire-fledgling bonds and brood bonds.

fledglings only need a nest for a month, but a vampire of any age can benefit from a nest. they can be very soothing + they generally feel very safe + nests conduct deeper sleep.
