I can't wait for Jughead to die and come back to life in yet another christ parallel
Tagged by the always delightful @foxmagpie and @mego42, to do WIP Wednesday, which there is ten minutes left of here, so that is amazing timing, haha.
Have a little snippet of a Beth and Mick scene from the last part of my Mick x Mary Pat fic.
-
“You warning me off her?” he asks, wiping his hands on his napkin, the sauce off his fingers staining the fabric something so red it’s almost brown. He licks his teeth. “Or her off me?”
He’s not entirely sure what he’s expecting from Rio’s Girl at the question – maybe for her to fluster, flounder, stride out of here with her fingers already punching Rio’s number into her cell – but whatever it is, it’s not for her to jerk her head back, a sorta insulted look crossing her face like he just told her her mini muffins were dry at a bake sale.
“Neither. You’re - - ” she says it quickly, words tumbling over each other before she stops. Shakes her head just a little, and then rolls her eyes, but the last looks like it ain’t aimed at him. She exhales, looks at him properly for maybe the first time since she strode in. “Trust me, I don’t care what you and Mary Pat do together.”
Mick holds up a hand.
“Then why are we talking about it?”
He means it honestly enough, but he’s still not expecting it when Beth suddenly closes the distance and flops down into the seat opposite him at the table, her enormous mama-purse practically taking out half the setting in the process. The clatter of the restaurant sounds loud around them – the scrape of knives on plates, jeers of a few guys watching the football by the bar, somewhere, somebody drops a glass – but Beth just stares right back at him, then away, then back at him. The ring on her finger’s the same shape as the tiny bar bruise on Rio’s cheek yesterday, and she spins it on her finger before she tosses her hand up to wave down a waiter.
“Bourbon,” she says, and then looks back at Mick expectantly, and what the hell, hethinks. He nods in the direction of the guy to second the order, and the waiter’s barely out of earshot when Beth turns back to Mick and asks:
“Did he send you to handle her for me?”
There’s a tone to her voice that Mick can’t read, can’t get his head around, whatever, and he scrapes his teeth along his lower lip as he takes her in again, because look. It’s not so much for her as something he can do to her, and if that line being blurred isn’t fucked up, Mick doesn’t know what is.
“It wasn’t a gift,” he tells her, because fuck, she’s gotta know that much at least, but still, he sees her mouth tighten, her eyes blink a little too rapidly.
“Didn’t think it was,” she replies, and then: “Are you going to? Handle her?”
And ain’t that just the million dollar question? Mick tosses the napkin onto his plate and leans back in his chair.
“I don’t know.”
“She has children.”
“I know.”
“She doesn’t deserve it.”
“I know.”
In the football game on TV, somebody scores. A raucous swell of cheering overwhelms the bar, hands thumping down on tables, legs stamping, but Beth doesn’t take her eyes off him, and he knows what she’s going to say before she even says it.
“Lucy didn’t either.”

OK! Norribeth: “You tell me that battling with monsters has made me a monster? Doing business with devils, what has that made you?” or Sparrabeth: "Oh yes, you go do that. Great Idea, I'm sure you'll be perfectly fine!"
Ooh these are amazing prompts. I’m excited. Especially the sparrabeth one - I could see either of them saying that to each other.
