Esplin sat in a dirty rooftop, like most of his living zone. He uncapped a bottle, and drank. He had no further plans tonight. The day had not been so bad. But then, of course, everything had gone to shit. Esplin did not want to think about that. Or what "his" gang could be up to now.
<We failed them. Again.> The morose voice in Esplin's head went ignored. <Fuck, could you at least try to give a singular shit? What will happen if one of them really gets it?>
The image managed to sour Esplin mood further. If one of those fuckers died, then he would be "responsible" for correctly disposing the body, saying dumb, sentimental stuff he didn't want to, and other human rituals.
"Fuck humans" he said, and drank.
<So not originals thoughts tonight, then.>
"Shut the fuck up. You're almost as bad as Edriss."
<Wow, what a compliment. I'm almost as bad as a invading slug. Thank you for that, I needed the morale boost.>
"SHUT UP!" Esplin screamed, and downed the rest of the bottle.
<Yeah, see, the problem with that is that you can't make me.>
"Humans are pests. One day, you will know your low place in the Yeerk Empire." Esplin smiled as he said that. The idea of humanity enslaved always brightened his mood a little.
<Right. The Yeek Empire that will definitely come because... Two drunkwards insist about it?>
"Shut up." Ugh. Back to the real world. And the bad day, and the alcohol. He grabbed another bottle.
<Edriss will be so happy to know you're spending your time so usefully.>
"She can't say shit to me." Reminded him Esplin. "Not after the other day."
<What, jealous of that guy?>
"Ha, ha. I do not concern myself with pests. Simply with wasted time, and opportunities missed by being stupidly in love with humanity."
<Because the hate you have for it is more constructive?> Luke deadpanned.
"Whatever." He drank again. "For awful days and shitty nights." He said to no one.
<And for being stuck seemingly forever.>
"That's a terrifying idea. I'll drink more for that."
And, in the darkness of the night, a slug and his human slave drank the night away.
