“It was a medic!” He snapped back at his own Captain. “He wasn’t even armed, and he wasn’t trying to hurt us! He was just trying to save his friend!” He was far too riled up, and every word he shouted he knew was getting himself in deeper and deeper trouble with Titus.

Nyx covered his face and groaned, trying to calm himself. There was no reason to get so upset, the guy got away, and Nyx carried the unconscious soldier to help him get out of the area. So what if he got knifed in the medical tent? It wasn’t the medic or the soldier he’d been carrying -- it was someone else.

“I know they weren’t civilians, but I’m not going to kill the helpless. They’re just doing their job too... I’m not a monster.”

“Can I help you, ma’am?” He didn’t want to impose on some royalty in Lucis, or some representative of a different nation, but they had been following him for a good distance. “Are you lost? I’m not totally familiar, but I’m sure I can point you in the right direction.”

He leaned on the pinball machine, easily getting in the way of Noctis’s view of the machine. “Look.” He said, his tone very casual and calm, not at all scolding. “I get wanting to skip school and all... but could you at least have the decency to change out of your school uniform? ... And maybe wear your hair back. Just so you look... you know... different?”

“Not to pry or anything, but, uh, you seem used to this kinda stuff.” Nyx remarked. “I hate putting it this way, but I’m glad; most of the time there’s a lot of people who have to deal with the shakes and the nerves out there. You did fine. Keep it up, yeah?” He pats her on the shoulder. He usually preferred talking out the new recruits who were still shaken after their first time, it’s a strange thing to be doing the opposite, praising a lack of fear.

“Hey, relax, he’s fine.” Nyx patted the back of the guard giving the other man the third degree. He got in between the two of them, otherwise the guard wasn’t going to stop. “Leave it.” Nyx told him. He turned back towards the other, folding his arms.

“What are you doing, kid?” He furrowed his brow, although he was nowhere near as stern or angry like the guard, just confused. “Noctis needs to get you a visitor pass to come inside. Did you lose it? It doesn’t even matter if you did, your escort has to be here to let you in, and Noctis just left... unless you’re here for something else?”

He kept his pace as quick as he could to keep up with the taller man. “Look, sir.” Nyx continued to follow him as he made his way down the halls of the Citadel like he knew the whole place. “I don’t know when you got your chance to schedule a meeting but you can’t just barge in, you do have to provide clearance.”

“You there?” Nyx stood in the doorway, pulling the curtain away quietly, looking into the hospital room. She looked kind of small in a giant hospital bed, with a bunch of pillows and sheets and a hospital gown on. He came in with a fruit basket, and a stuffed animal, and he set them down by her nightstand, carefully moving the flowers away. It’s strange to see her look so small, knowing she could summon a pillar of fire the size of this very hospital.

“Hey, don’t get up.” Nyx beckoned her back down. “You got real beat up out there, take it easy.” He sat down in the folding chair nearby. “I got this for you.” He held out the stuffed animal, a black bird. “I thought it was a crow, but it turns out, it’s a raven.” He smirked a little bit.

It faltered to a frown. “Uh, you heard yeah? Eno didn’t pull through. Funeral is probably gonna be next week.” He put his hand on the back of her hand, accidentally bumping the I.V. “I’m glad you’re okay. In fact, you don’t even owe me one for this time, I promise.” He smiled again. “Just get healed up quicker, you have no idea how bad it is when you’re not there to drink with.”

He usually gets away with purposefully ignoring the guards, as well as most people, but it’s almost different bumping into someone when you’re off duty. He blinked a few times, wondering if he should feign a cheery attitude, but he decided against it, that would be dumb, and not worth it. No, he just kept on ignoring, pretending he didn’t have peripheral vision.
