“It was a medic!” He snapped back at his own Captain. “He wasn’t even armed, and he wasn’t trying to hurt us! He was just trying to save his friend!” He was far too riled up, and every word he shouted he knew was getting himself in deeper and deeper trouble with Titus.

Nyx covered his face and groaned, trying to calm himself. There was no reason to get so upset, the guy got away, and Nyx carried the unconscious soldier to help him get out of the area. So what if he got knifed in the medical tent? It wasn’t the medic or the soldier he’d been carrying -- it was someone else.

“I know they weren’t civilians, but I’m not going to kill the helpless. They’re just doing their job too... I’m not a monster.”

“Don’t lecture me kid.” he flicked Gladiolus on the nose, playfully, not with any malice. “It’s nothing personal, but adults don’t like it when kids try to tell them what to do, okay?” He knows Gladio is an adult, but he still cant help mocking him a bit for being younger.

He didn’t want to think about it anymore, but he wished he didn’t tell Gladio to help wake him up if he started to fall away. Sometimes he could still hear screaming, echoing in the back of his head. It was good to have someone notice and shake him out of it, but it was still unfortunate that someone could see it in him. “I’ll be fine. I’m a lot better than I used to be you know! I’ve just been in a bit of a rut lately...”

“They’re daemons. They’re just trying to survive. Even if I don’t like them... they’re just animals. They want to survive. They’re cornered and they’re scared and they are usually hiding backed up into a wall and don’t appear until then. So just steer clear of them. We have bigger things to fight, Empires and traitors... daemons are just doing their thing. We can leave em be.”

“Only the one season, huh?” He remembered the old Galahdian songs about the four seasons, born in spring, dying in the winter. He couldn’t help but imagine how sappy they are. “I hope mine was summer.” He chuckled, looking to her. “But I’m a Taurus, so that’s late Spring right?” He kept an amused smile on his face. “That’s my constellation I’m pretty sure... what’s yours? Do you have a favorite one?” Perhaps he’s just rambling, but he can hear her voice sounding low, and he wanted her not to continue any pity on his state.

“So... seeing as Shiva’s icy corpse is sitting in Vogliupe just some miles outside of the Niflheim capital of the Empire... I’m gonna guess they’re flesh is not too death proof. Should’ve ate some malboro stew, that’ll protect you real good!” He smirked a bit. “What sort of grudge are you talking about, sunshine?” He furrowed his brow. “And which kinds of Gods?”

“Yeah, yeah, I know.” He replied with a rumbling sigh. “I’d like the price to not be so high... but I guess we just have to bear with it.” He’d been with the Kingsglaive long enough to know the sacrifices that had to be made for them all. He’d made them a few times, even for younger recruits, who he tried to keep moving along. It was easy to get spirits down.

“For me, it’s a pint of beer and some malboro soup at Yamachangs. That makes this worth it.” Nyx decided for himself with a smile, although now all he could think about was getting some dinner after the debriefing ended.
