I'd like to thank Hozier for being the one who accompanied me publishing my first fic.
That fantastic fic has me reeling about kíli having víli's eyes now.
I just assumed it would be a blue x blue gene with fíli inheriting the blue and kíli getting the brown from dís parents or víli's parents
But that doesnt actually work science wise- so i booped around
👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀
Maternal grandparents assuming both blue
V(brown) x d (blue)
We would see a 57% chance brown and 27 % blue
If V blue x d blue
99% blue .5 brown
But if we add in the variables of paternal grandparenta both having brown eyes and Víli also having brown eyes to the calculator it swings to:
57% brown and 28% blue!
KÍLI HAS VÍLI'S EYES
In conclusion according to a random ass punnet square calculator Vís likely had brown eyes and i need to edit some fics
I’ve started writing a collection of oneshots that take place in/around the TaBaTA universe! (Experience with said universe not required)
It’s called A Look Into Lives- Tales of Unexpected Adventures, and you can find it on AO3 and Fanfiction.net @WoodAshAndOliveOil
Here is a snippet of Chapter 1: The Tragedy of Dwalin and the Lady Dís
He was not sure if he had been too young to remember when the Great Dragon took Erebor, or if he had simply blocked those memories from his mind. Dwalin did not know, and did not care to find out.
What he did know was that for years afterwards, the smell of smoke would send him into a blind panic, unable to breathe, or think clearly. The warmth of fire on his skin would burn hot, though the flames never truly licked his skin.
In those times, he held on to his family. Not his father, nor even his brother, who was far older than him and often busy. No, Dwalin’s family then was a stubborn, angry prince and his younger, wilder brother, a princess more stubborn, angry, and wild than her brothers combined.

I loved the Dìs headcanons ❤❤❤❤❤ Can we also please have Vili??
Huuuu okay so, Víli, my man
He was born in Erebor, but his family originates from the Iron Hills (I think his grandad was the one to come to Erebor, or maybe his great-grandad). It’s a family of blacksmiths and merchants, mostly, though they are distantly related to some noble family - technically, Víli is a noble too, in some way.
He had a good childhood, he grew up to be in happiness and they suffered no need. He grew up to be a fun person, staying positive even in hard times - though after Smaug’s attack, it drops a lot.
He met Dís down in the forges of Erebor, and it was love at first sight. They were young, just in their teens, and Víli was head over heels with Dís, yet he was always respectful and didn’t take advantage even when they were left alone. There was attraction, but they grew to be friends too.
When Smaug attacked, he was hanging out with Dís - he made sure she got out safely. Later he learned that his whole family was lost to dragonfire - and for the first time, he completely broke. Dís was there for him and she helped him recover, and they only fell in love even more - and the Durins more or less adopted him.
He became close friends with Thorin and Frerin, and he was lucky to be liked by Thráin and even maybe by Thrór too - so when the Dís came of age to be married off, it was no question that Víli would ask for her hand.
But to everyone’s surprise, Víli actually insisted on courting her properly, despite of the dire struggles of the exile. Thrór and Frerin died in the meantime, and Thráin disappeared in the meantime, delaying their wedding. He was there for Dís, mourning with her.
Once they married, they immediately hit it off - one and a half years later Fíli was born. It was a tough birth, and Víli was there, apologizing to Dís all the while and swearing they would never have another child - five years later Kíli was born, regardless.
He loved the boys. Once he came down the high of becoming a dad, their second son was on the way. He was a devoted dad, being the first to get up for the baby when he cried, despite the fact that both his sons cried even harder in his arms - they were most likely intimidated by his big mustache. When the boys got a bit older, the taught them how to sing and play the fiddle, how to pull pranks and do tricks.
Fíli took after his looks, almost being the perfect copy of him (except the Durin blue eyes - Víli had those brown puppy eyes that Kíli inherited). Both boys took after his cheerful personality and his open-mindedness. Fíli wears the mustache braids in memory of him as that was a signiture look of Víli’s family, and Víli made a set of mustache beads for both of the boys to give them as a present of their coming of age. (He died before he could’ve done that, but Dís made sure to keep the beads and she gifted them to the boys - Fíli is wearing them, Kíli is not, because he doesn’t have enough mustache for that yet)
Sadly he died a few years after Kíli’s birth. It was an orc attack on one of their hunting trips. He held up the raid, so Thorin could escape and survive, knowing well that he was sacrificing himself for his king, knowing Thorin’s life was more important than anything. He was captured, and he died in the orc camp not too long after.
Dís kept waiting for him, and when she accepted that he would never return again, she swore to never marry again, despite having every chance to do so. Instead she made sure to tell the boys about their father that they barely knew and every year, on Víli’s birthday, they held a little celebration for his memory.
Memento
@filisleftmustachebraid, inspired by @saraduvall who drew a lovely picture of Víli and Fíli.
What is the origin of: the mustache braids?
Dís’ sure brush-strokes had captured Víli’s likeness in many situations even before her favourite subject perished in the mines. When she woke from the greying state of numbness that had enveloped her since the news of Víli’s death, Dís was thankful for the many sketches she had made. It had been Dwalin – far more emotionally insightful than most gave him credit for – who had asked her if she would object to displaying at least a few of the drawings around the house. At first, Dís had objected vehemently, having no wish to be reminded of her dead One every time she turned a corner. Dwalin’s reply had simultaneously broken her heart and made it feel whole and full to bursting.
Víli means 'will or strength of character' and that has me emotionally damaged tonight lads.

He knew much about lonely men. Though Thorin was far from distant, there was a time during the loss of his brother when he had been grieving and harder to reach. During those years it had been difficult to connect with him.
But he was never cold.
Fíli can recall, however, the warmth and strength Thorin displayed throughout that time. Always patient with him and the other pebbles. Always there for others. In some ways his uncle was a lonely mountain but he always ensured no one else was alone.
If he reaches back to a time before even then. He finds in the pipesmoke haze his own father giving counsel and support to Thorin before the hearth. Their deep voices mingled in otherworldly soft whispers. Trying their damndest not to wake Fíli from his sleep. His blanket or a toy clutched in his chubby fists.
But there he would be, the moment the front door had opened. Carefully. Quietly creeping down the steps. Taking them one at a time. Until he reached the landing. Then sprinting to stare from the doorframe at two conspiring figures. The sentinels that kept him safe from trolls and angry men. Men of axes and flame with soft voices and kind hands until the time called for different matters.
Upon seeing him the men would chuckle. Tapping each other's boots with a head thrown in his direction.
“ Ohhh? If it's not the dandelion king??? Did you bring ada any hugs from the land of dreams?” Víli would call over, his voice soft. In no time Fíli was gathered into his arms. Nestling safe and sound burying his face into his shoulder. “ Miss you.” He whispered.
“ I missed you too.”
