They’re a couple hundred miles out of Ba Sing Se, at the end of the mountains before the deserted temples of the Air Nomads. This is just one of many small camps set up along the way, full of makeshift homes for refugees from other Earth Kingdom cities.
The Fire Nation has dropped any pretense of peace. The war has already begun.
And because of it, there’s been an influx of citizens from the Northern Water Tribes. Their resistance is small, and Asa suspects also terribly inadequate, but it’s all they have for now. They’ll work with what they’ve got until what they’ve got is good enough to protect what they’re fighting for.
He takes a seat beside a young girl, still dressed in her traditional robes. There’s never any shortage of work to be down, but it’s nearing dinner, and the camp is active with conversation.
It always is when there are new people to meet. New people to share their food with, and their good Earth Kingdom hospitality.
“I’m assuming it was a long trip?” He’s trying to be friendly. “Your people look exhausted.”
