“Not really. Not like my sister, anyways. I’ve learned a little, mostly self defense stuff, when I have better days and can be out and about more.”
“Um, Flor... Flo… nope. She said I can call her Ann, so I will be. Ann definitely surprised me. It’s a good thing, don’t get me wrong, but I wasn’t expecting her to be how she is, certainly.”
“You know, the human brain is fascinating. It can do complicated math, science, can create masterpieces that will be enjoyed for centuries, write beautiful songs and poetry. It holds memories and helps you learn things about the world around you that you’ll keep forever, and yet it can’t seem to make you stop and think even once during the process of typing this out that I might not appreciate this, considering my past.”
“Hmm. Now, I’m not sure how to feel about this one.”
“On one hand, excellent usage of my backstory and my hair, but… still a little grossed out in the long run?”
“Is that the typical response to bad pickup lines? I guess I could ask Felix.”
“How did I like it? Oh, it was simply the most frabjous experience! I can’t believe I got to go!!”
“I know, normally I just say “oh, it’s no Wonderland” but it was so much more than Wonderland! I only wish we could have stayed there more. I haven’t had so much fun since the last time Mary, Toby, and I had tea together! And that’s been forever ago now!”
“I feel like that’s a reference I should get, but I don’t. Sorry!”
“Oh, nothing much! I suppose it comes with being raised in Wonderland…? Things there that I see as normal can be scary to people who aren’t from Wonderland. And I’ve gotten used to dealing with them—y’know, things like mome raths, and the card soldiers that want to kill me because of who my mother is, and all? And since I can handle that, I’m not really all that scared of much else.”
“I’m sure Fern’s going to see that as a challenge.”
“Disgusted.”
“Look, I get why the adults are there—still believe “what’s dead should stay dead”, but I get it.”
“But the kids. Like Flora, like Isabella, hell, he’s not gonna like me saying this, but like Tai. They’re coming over here mentally in pain, unable to keep up and connect with the other royals and kids here in Auradon. They’re coming over here with suffering beyond their years and what did they get when they asked for help? They got put aside. They got ignored. They got told to suck it up.”
“And what did I get? After five years in torment, I got rescued and put into therapy. I got sympathetic looks, people didn’t hold me to a perfect standard—they knew I was hurting and they tried to deal with it. And it’s not right that I’m the only one that gets that. Everyone, regardless of upbringing, of parentage, of where they’re from—everyone deserves the chance to heal.”
“Nobody should have to “just deal with it” because “that’s just how it is”. Just because that’s how things are or were, doesn’t mean you’re not hurt, and it doesn’t mean you should be denied the chance to get better.”
“And not only that, but even people like Audrey make that a challenge. Tai reminds me that I had things to help me in my recovery since I was born here. But he doesn’t realize that I’m still not getting treated the way I need to. Auradon is a “perfect” place, our school’s motto is, quite literally, “goodness doesn’t get any better”, and that’s the mentality a lot of citizens want to adopt. They want us to be perfect and societal. The VKs come in and get rejected because they can’t uphold that. And then they get ignored as best as they can when their issues get brought up—and it’s the same for me. They try, they do, so I’ve got it better than the VKs by a long shot. But that doesn’t mean it’s their best effort. Usually, they just keep things quiet and try to keep the ugly parts of this place hidden.”
“It’s why I’m really glad Hollis suggested the support group when school gets started back up. I’m more than happy to offer what little help I can give, if they’re willing to have it.”
