The Vampire Academy Trailer is NOTHING like the book!
That is what you read on every post about the movie. So, let's break this trailer down
The first scene where we meet the ladies in the book, Lissa hasn't ate for a while so she feeds off of Rose.
Once the ladies feed in the trailer it goes into telling us the back story. "I should probably point out that my best friend Lissa Dragomir is a royal member of an ancient race" Yep, I'm pretty sure that is mentioned in the book.
IDK guys, looking good so far, huh? Oh, that is right! She still has the cat! Oh man, that is just going to ruin the entire plot!! Ugh, it is ruined.
Wait, what? You're telling me that doesn't affect the overall story at all? Whoa, mind = blown.
Oh, hey look! It is the queen visiting the school! Did that happen in the book. Sure did! Ok.
Look! It's a bunch of old dudes and some old books. This must be the church. Oh, you might remember a few things about the book: Rose has to clean up the church and while doing so she stumbles upon some books that help her start understanding the bond her and Lissa have.
But, don't worry doubters, I just know there is going to be something in here to help you prove your point, right? I mean, why else would you complain on every post about it? They're gonna slip up soon, I just know it!
Oh, hey! We get a snippet of Dimka next. Oh, I can just hear some of you now, "He looks NOTHING like Dimitri!"
Dimitri is Russian. He is Russian.
Dimitri has long brown hair. He has long brown hair.
Dimitri has dark eyes. He has dark eyes.
Dimitri is tall. He is tall.
Hmm.... Well, let's move on.
Oh, we moved on to church. You remember the church from the book, right? The one Lissa goes to and Rose attends just so she can't get out since she is in trouble, right?
Hey look! Dhampirs are training!!! Is that in the book? Yep.
Oh, here it is. A party! One of the arguments you guys make is that the movie looks like they're all just wild party girls. Well, this is the ONLY party scene and it flashes twice on screen during the trailer. And each time it flashes is for a fraction of a second.
But those fractions of a second are enough to soil our innocent soul's right?
Is this why you're calling it a party movie?
You guys remember this party is in the book, too... right?
Here it is! Another thing not in the book. Whew, I was getting worried all of you were just imagining things! Okay, but if you all would have read a few interviews you would have known that:
They sped up the stake training to movie one because who wants to watch a movie about a chick training to slay strigoi if she doesn't actually train to stake strigoi.
(and this might be a spoiler for some of you, read with caution) She doesn't actually stake anyone (and I'm sure we all know who she is aiming it at) She is about to, but because she lacks so much training she HESITATES and can't do it.
oh, nothing, just Rose being sassy as hell. Ya know, like in the book.(Side note, can someone edit that part into a gif and put "look out, we gotta badass over here" Like, Why hasn't that been done yet? )
Yep, Rose is kicking Mason's ass. You remember that scene in the book, I'm sure. She finally beats him after training with Dimitri for a while. Remember? Book? Check.
I mean, since we didn't get an Eddie she had to pick on some dude, right. Sorry, bro, hope you didn't need your baby maker.
This is when Lissa gets back to the academy. Aarons all, "So happy to see you." (When he probably means, "save me from this crazy bitch")
Oh, and then Mia is all "back off, blood whore, he is mine now."
Is this word for word from the book? No.
But is this situation in the book? Yes.
Aw, it's uncle Victor bein all sick and old. Book? Check.
Oh, look! Moroi power! Now some of you were all "Lissa never sets anything on fiyah!"
But again, interviews are your best friends because you would've known that Christian does it to impress her. (; Cute, huh?
This situation in the book? No.
But are fire powers and Christian being all cute in there. Yep!
Will it break apart the story by adding this? Nope.
Now, here you're going to yell at me, "See! Nothing like the book!" "This is basically some Harry Potter shitz"
And this is where I'll say:
But (someone) kills animals and leaves them for Lissa to find and one has a threatening note.
Isn't "Leave or Die" a threatening note? I'd say so.
Hey, pre-dance scene. No, in the book the 3 of them did not get ready together. But, does that really matter? No. But we DO see the black dress and the necklace! Both in the book and important for a little scene later on.
Cut to Lissa and Christian getting cozy in (probably) the church attack. In the book? Yes, many times.
Ooh, look, a scary ass strigoi. Hide yo kids! Hide yo wife!
Were strigoi seen in the first book? No. But, how do we know anyone from the school sees them? All we see in the trailer is the camera pan over what looks like dozens of strigoi and this threatening bastard walks toward us. Who's to say Rose faces these guys? Who's to say this isn't just part of them learning, or a story, or a training scenario.
But, regardless of WHY they're in the movie, it was absolutely essential for them to be shown to help distinguish the races for the non-book readers.
Hey, girl, hey! Look at this. It is Them training! Now, when this still was first released you had people say, "Why is it day time?!"
If you remember in the book the school is on a noctornal schedule, meaning they go to school at night and sleep during the day.
You might also recall that Rose had to train with Dimitri before and sometimes after her daily schedule, which would mean waking up during daylight to train or staying up late and training after sunrise.
This is in the very beginning of the book when Rose and Lissa see the figure outside of their window so they leave the apartment. They come up to the guardians and Rose attacks them.
Oh no! Rose is getting her arse beat by someone (book readers know who.)
Hey, look! Sonya Karp being all cray cray!
And last but not least, lust charm scene. And Rose's BANGIN' bod.
I fear some of you are letting the bright colors or the music or Rose's sassy voice-over cloud what you're seeing in the trailer. I think you've already got this mentality that the movie will suck and is nothing like the book based on things you might have seen or thought before the trailer and that is what is keeping you from seeing that this trailer is VERY true to the book and we can also assume that the movie will be as well.
Will it be a perfect reproduction? No. Of course not!
Can it still be true to the source material without being a perfect reproduction?
YES! And based on Richelle and early screeners opinions on the movie, it IS true to the book.
