I just noticed this & honestly, I feel ridiculous for not catching it sooner. I genuinely think Vaggie was meant to reflect [ perhaps even echo? ] the Speaker. Maybe she was supposed to be her successor, but something changed & was repurposed [ remembering how Vaggie referred to herself as the failure ] — Whatever the case, I don’t trust the Speaker; she’s too kind, too distant. Not once does she offer Sera tangible help or real guidance,
The way Lute stands behind Sera… & then Speaker; it mirrors that same visual setup; I can’t put it together just yet. Despite her ‘warm’ demeanor, Speaker offers only cold abstraction. When Sera pleads for atonement, for direction, she’s met with platitudes: ‘Every transgression must serve as a lesson [ … ] You must bear the cross bestowed upon you,’ These aren’t words of comfort or redemption; she says it so sweetly, sounds so genuine but it's outright dismissal & blame dressed as doctrine… Some foul shit is going on here,
