Title: Sweet Intoxication
'My life is for you And no one other than you And no one other than you' 'I dream of rain I dream of gardens in the desert sand I wake in vain I dream of love as time runs through my hand'
Moonlight drips richly through the gap in the curtains, painting a line of chalky white across the room. The beam is bright, but not uncomfortably so, illuminating the air in a soft glow. It falls onto the floor, across the wall, over the expanse of slightly askew sheets, which rise and fall over the lines of their bodies. Everything is still. And the gentle peace of night soothes day into rest. His fingers curl against the duvet. It's a crisp night, the slight nip of winter sinking through condensed windows with the river of moonlight. Not that the chill bothers him. Death was never one to be uncomfortable in extremity of weather. No, if anything, he was warm, warmer that Death should be, a heat clawing through him from his chest. Smiling, he shakes his head lightly, the remaining threads of the dream falling away like the last autumn leaves. Before Vajra, he had forgotten what it was like to dream. This could be blamed on the fact he rarely slept. Being that he had never had reason or time to, it seemed something not worth doing unnecessarily. But, soon he did have reason to, and someone to make time for. The idea of lying beside Vajra was temptation too strong to resist, it seemed. Soon enough, it was clear to him what other marvelous things sleep could bring, besides having the rich blue of her soul singing contentedly by his side. The beauty wouldn't leave him even as he left the waking world, and she danced into his dreams, too. And really, by the way she had filled his soul, he couldn't have expected any less of her. She was intoxicating. Hypnotizing, mesmerizing, addictive to the point his heart ached. His life, his mind, his soul had been tied to her. And the bonds refused to break. Even when separated by unconsciousness, they were still captured by each other. Maybe he didn't fill her dreams the same way she did his, but for such vivid images to flicker through his mind, there had to be some sort of connection. His thoughts tumbled over and over, a distorted rhythm that was too powerful to ignore. Vajra was beautiful, inside and out, so much so that he wondered how he had ever survived without her. Like an oasis, the simplest glance from those deep brown eyes felt as though he were quenching a century long thirst. Even the feather light dance of breath over his skin was enough to rock his very soul. He sometimes feared Death City would collapse from the sheer weight of it. And a kiss, even a peck, seemed a river. Washing through his bones, through his veins, so deeply that it almost hurt. This pain was one he couldn't get enough of. No matter how much of her he got, he would always hunger for more. All of these thoughts seemed to fill him to the brim, filling his chest and pressing against his lungs. Death needed to scream, needed to tear them out, to do something to let them run free. Even if he wasn't usually a poet, nor a master of words, any man could be with Vajra as their muse. Sighing deeply, gently, he leaned over to kiss her cheek. Such a touch was dangerous, he sometimes feared that one day he wouldn't be able to let her go. But the ache in his chest still burned. If he didn't do anything to remedy it, he might just end up screaming the words. Release it may be, but he wouldn't want to wake his other half. Not while her soul was so peaceful. No, he would show how he felt, but when she was ready to see. No one wants to have affection shouted at them. And so, careful not to wake her, he slipped out of their bed. That beat, that rhythm in her soul still echoing in his own. Leaving the bedroom, he notes the time. Just past one in the morning. All of those in his city seem calm, each one of his children finding their own peace from the havoc of the day. But she is closest, the only one who dominates his mind. If only she knew just how much he loved her, more than he thought it was possible. Eight hundred years ago, he had never understood Eibon's drastic action for his beloved. But now, now it seemed clear as day why he would want to give his wife immortality. Because if he loved her as much as he did Vajra, then it seemed only rational. Not right, maybe. But understandable all the same. Entering the mansion's study, careful to be as silent as he could, both pen and paper are in his hands. Soon, he's writing, words flowing with ease onto the page. The letters are scrawled and rushed. But once he had began, he couldn't stop. Every bit of his desire, his passion, sparks in one burst. It's almost like a song, the most powerful and intoxicating tune that carries one away. As best as he can, he wants to share the song his soul sings to her. To just give her even the smallest glimpse of how deeply he cares for her. It may be that such a powerful emotion cannot be displayed, but he would be damned if her didn't try. The dream still plays over in his head. Images that run through his mind, pulsing through with his blood, running red to black and becoming ink on the paper. He doesn't pause for a moment. How long he sat there, he wasn't exactly sure. But, by the time he felt as though he'd finally exhausted his emotions, his hand stung from the strain of writing. Never before had that happened. Smiling, laughing slightly, he reads his poem over and over, tracing the letters with his thumb. And he hopes it's enough. Enough to give her a taste of what is on his tongue when they kiss. The song that echoes in his ears when she speaks. And how her touch is one beyond description, beyond language. Vajra is far beyond words. But he can only hope that his own are enough to prove how deep his love for her is.
'Sweet desert rose Each of her veils, a secret promise This desert flower No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this' 'Sweet desert rose This memory of Eden haunts us all This desert flower This rare perfume, is the sweet intoxication of the fall'
