The Serpent Queen’s Den || Event: Part 3
Obstacle: Snakes in the Dark
Times were getting tough for the young man with the bottomless stomach. Anticipating yet another meal at the second challenge, he was merely presented with a free bath. Whether or not it was needed was open to interpretation, yet such trifling things did not concern him. All that mattered now was the meal awaiting him at the finish line.
His food deliveries barely sustaining him each day, he found himself dreary most days, a far cry from his enthusiastic demeanor he’d held around 6 days ago. Hunger could do terrible things to a person, and Luffy’s was akin to that of a dinosaur.
Yet despite his lethargic posture similar to that of a person on death’s door, if it were by magic his energy was revitalized almost instantaneously as he spotted what he’d now determined to be the final door. “There it is, Zuchi! The meat is so close I can almost smell it!”
Despite his appetite equating to almost ten times a normal human, Luffy knew that he wouldn’t have been the only one struggling, one glance at Kurotsuchi could ascertain that much. As he hurtled towards the third challenge, he had a feeling that the goal was almost within reach.
A swirl to rival Sanji’s brows || Event: Part 2
Obstacle: Whirlpool
“Mmmm, that was delicious!” echoed throughout the concrete halls as Luffy polished off the last of the bear. Despite his insatiable appetite, along with the daily food deliveries he’d managed to somehow make the giant grizzly last a few days, a modest effort by him and a seemingly impossible effort for others. He could only imagine the disgust Nami would display towards him.
“But you know, Zuchi...” he muttered whilst sucking the last skerricks of food off the bone. “How much longer have we gotta walk? I thought the finish line was at the X?” He’d charged headlong in the first section of the maze, taking only a few hours to reach the first trial, however realizing the futility of further exertion as the days wore on, as well as recovering from his battle, they’d kept a reasonable pace together ever since.
“We gotta be pretty close by now, I wonder how many more bears we have to eat before we reach the finish line.”
Un-bear-able || Event: Part 1
Obstacle: Bear Trap
Sprinting back from yet another dead end, Luffy crossed paths with Kurotsuchi as he made his way back to the fork. He’d seemed to have an uncanny knack for choosing the wrong path, and unbeknownst to him it was likely that his partner had cracked onto this trend, allowing him to scout out ahead in order to conserve energy.
Yet the presently-not-rubber pressed on, and his persistence was soon rewarded, a gateway with a large ‘X’ emblazoned on the front. “Yosh! Meat and glory, here I come!” Throwing caution to the wind, he promptly kicked down the door on arrival, charging into the empty room.
“Huh... is this another dead end?” He was certain the X meant victory, or at least a checkpoint. Before he could ponder the situation any further, the floor below him collapsed, his natural reaction let out a wail as he plummeted several meters.
Hitting the ground with significant force, the Straw Hat slowly brought himself to his feet, nursing himself as pain was a usual non-factor with his rubber property. “Oi Zuchi, no one told me about any holes in the ground!”
Before he could ramble any further, a grumbling noise resonated from the darkened area before him. His attention focused, a large shadowy figure slowly emerged, a fully grown grizzly bear staring him down. Whilst most would be paralyzed in fear in moments such as this, Luffy had but one natural reaction.
“Ohooo! He looks delicious!”
Take your marks || Event: START
“Hurry up! We’re gonna miss the race!” were the words that bellowed from the Straw Hat’s lips as he made a flying leap to the starting blocks. He and his partner were the last to take their positions, and not a moment too soon, as without a moment to compose themselves the whistle was blown, and Luffy and Kurotsuchi (or Zuchi, as his impeccable memory recalled) were headed straight for the backpacks.
“Go Zuchi! We’ve got this in the bag!” he yelled, swinging the pack over his shoulder and kicking down the door to the maze. Not wasting a moment even to allow his partner to keep up, the Captain sped down the concreted halls in search of the first challenge. While his sense of direction would surely not aid him his search, his seemingly boundless energy was all he really needed to get ahead of the pack.
