A dialogue from Terminator, but it's Ilya as Kyle and Valek as Sarah
Autumn evening for my otp, compare and contrast
Pandemic romanticism. I said.
Some spoilers for the very next chapter of Astern hehe
Plus a meme
This is gonna be the end of the prologue which I've been working on for nearly a year (basically because I'm a lazy procrastinator but still) and this really does mean a lot to me
It is late night again, around 1 a.m.
She is long asleep, softly sniffing into Ilya's chest. He's tired, but his sickly shifted schedule doesn't let him into Morpheus' kingdom, and with Valek just by his side, being so close to him, he doesn't dare to move, afraid to wake her up.
The quiet is only broken by the sonds of rain drops hitting the glass of the window. It is cold and wet outside, but here, in this bed, it is warm and cozy. Especially with Valek hugging him so tight in her sleep. Her hair tickle his neck, her breath soft against his skin. The only thing Ilya has in his mind now is one question: "What are you dreaming about?"
Lacerated
Valya's figure, moving away from Ilya with angry annoyance, finally disappeared behind a small farm house, but he sat and continued looking at the place where she had just been, where he had just seen her. For some reason, it now seemed to him that a piece of himself was torn off and carried somewhere, and that it should be returned, but... but he did not do anything. Ilya felt that tears inevitably came to his eyes. He was already so tired of them, of his own regular groundless tantrums, of having to hide them from Vali. Trying to answer the question - why, in fact, he was hysterical, he somehow came to understand the groundlessness of all that was happening inside him. Emotional nightmare. Ilya wrapped his arms around his shoulders and yanked the feathers out of his body. A sharp pain shot through his body for a moment, and the lump in his throat receded. Ilya stared at the river.
...
"I'm sick of it!" - Valya kicked a small pebble with hatred, and it flew into the river, with a loud gurgling, touching the water. - "You walk around, make out with him, choose your words carefully so that God forbid you don't touch any strings of his soul! You talk to him, explain how you see the situation, he nods to you like he understands .. but as soon as you come back to it again-he behaves as if we haven't talked about it once!"
She walked along the bank of the river near the forest, trying to calm down and saying everything that had accumulated in her to a bush which was standing alone beside this forest.
-"He doesn't seem to be listening! Or doesn't hear me. Or doesn't want to hear. What he wants to achieve by his behavior - I do not understand. Like the same Ilyusha, with whom we met a long time ago, only jokes less and is sadder.. Fucking melancholic. He closes inside himself, do not touch him, do not approach him, he is DANGEROUS after all. As soon as he stops being dangerous, it all becomes wrong, great! Anything to get Valya off, well, Valya's off, are you happy now, eh?!"
Valya fell on the sand in front of her bush and sighed heavily.
-"But he's not a fool... well just a little bit. He doesn't want to hurt me. I can see it. Nothing is easy for him now, he is angry with himself, he is trying to meet me halfway, trying to understand something, he is worried, of course. And I treat him like this. I have to swallow packs of sedative before I go to calm him down. He's a fool, and I'm no better. He didn't deserve to be treated like this, did he?"
The bush predictably did not respond. Valya lifted her head and mumbled "how difficult it is!", seasoning it with an annoyed growl. The bush growled in response. Valya in an instant threw off all her pensive anger and froze, staring at this bush. Imagination? Probably. But what if I don't? Valya tried to make out any movement behind the leaves, but there was none. Nevertheless, her gut clearly advised her to get out of there, and quickly.
Valya jumped up and nearly started to run back to the farm, but after taking two or three sharp steps back, she stopped. The reason for this was that in response to her footsteps, a creature that looked like a cat or a komodo lizard, no bigger than a cheetah, the one with green scales, jumped out of the bushes abruptly. After its appearance, the animal froze in a hunting position, ready for a new jump, and stared at Valya, who froze too and was afraid to move a finger. She wanted to run back as quickly as possible, but she knew that any sudden movement would provoke the creature to attack. So she, stood and watched the beast, trying, however, not to cross the gaze of the bright red eyes.
There was no doubt that this was a predator, just as there was no doubt that it would catch up with her and kill her. Its green back arched to the sky and was decorated with a kind of fin, similar growths were on the elbows and heels of the beast. There were gills on the neck. Huge claws dug into the sand where it stood. The creature did not open its mouth, so Valya was deprived of the dubious pleasure of admiring its teeth. After studying the animal and finally making sure that she could not hide nor fight back with her bare hands, Valya ran her eyes around, and, miraculously, found a fairly large and sharp stone to her left, two steps away from her. She let out a small, trembling breath and slowly, very slowly, took a step toward the weapon on her half-bent legs. The beast swayed and hissed, its paws visibly tensed, ready to send it flying at any second. Valya froze again, uttering a quiet "Shhh", which calmed not the predator but herself. The situation became even more tense. Valya knew that after only one step the beast would jump. She could only hope to outrun it in the maneuver.
And she ran for the rock. Heard a yell from the side that sounded like a hiss and a meow at the same time, fell into a ball on the sand and covered her head with her hands. From the other side came the thud of a body landing on the surface, and the same cry of displeasure. There was no time to think. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of the beast turning briskly and waving its tail in exasperation, baring its many rows of teeth; she snatched up a rock and held its sharp side out in front of her, trying to get to her feet convulsively. Her heart was pounding, and the blood was doing the same in her temples.
Valya screamed, now looking the predator in the eyes. Time seemed to slow down. The beast leaped, released its claws in flight, and opened its mouth. Valya was engulfed in shock, reality slipping away from her. She didn't even realize how the massive dark figure had hit the creature in flight with its own leap. She came to her senses as abruptly as she had fallen into oblivion.
This was Ilya. He rolled over in a tangle with the beast on the sand and slammed his clawed hand into its face. The creature screamed and began waving its front legs in front of itelf. Ilya crushed it under him and added another blow with his second hand. The creature howled, its claws digging into Ilya's collarbone, he growled angrily, baring his sharp teeth. Taking advantage of the moment, the beast slid out from under him and made several leaps to the side, still hissing threateningly. Ilya rose to his feet quickly, but the creature immediately knocked him down, leaping up from the side, and clung to the wing with its teeth. Devorak howled.
- "Ilya!"- the fear in Vali's voice. She leaped to her feet and slammed her rock into the creature's back. It screamed and jumped away from them.
-"Valek, go away."- Ilya said in a strangled voice, getting up on his bird legs.
-"You're crazy, I'm not leaving you here!"- Valya could only shout, clearly unaware of what she was doing. Sudden movement from the side. Ilya caught it and managed to parry another leap of the beast, throwing it aside.
-"I said get out of here! Don't be foolish! "-he growled, glaring at Valek.
The beast recovered from the throw. It jumped up and began walking slowly around its victims in a semicircle. Ilya pushed Valya behind him, fluffed his feathers, and spread his wings. He spread his legs, spread his arms, and bared his teeth. His already sizable figure now looked even bigger and more massive. The creature seemed to bristle, and the fin on its back stood on end. It hissed. Ilya hissed back, showing even more teeth. The beast continued to threaten. Ilya carefully pulled one leg back. Vali didn't seem to be there. He allowed himself to turn around for a moment , and there was no sign of her.
A sharp push in the chest. Ilya fell, and the creature tried to grab his neck, but he managed to grab it by the jaw and pull it away from him. He forcefully closed the predator's mouth, it whined, Ilya did not lose the moment and climbed on top of it, pressing its head to the ground. After a monent Devorak found himself biting furiously into the place where the creature's gills had been. It shivered and squirmed, its slimy body turning over under Ilya from its belly to back. The beast-lizard began to kick furiously with its hind legs, and slashed the claws of one of them between Ilya's legs. The man immediately relaxed his grip and howled, crouching. The creature crawled out from under Ilya and crawled behind him, three more blows of its claws on his back and wings before Ilya grabbed it by the collar and threw it to the side. The predator landed flat on its paws, turned smartly and jumped before Ilya had time to recover, but ran into a blow from a stick with a burning tip in the belly.
The beast-lizard fell to the ground and whimpered. Valya smashed the stick into its head again, and again, and again. With its tail between its legs, the creature scuttled away from Vali. She dropped the stick and ran to Ilya, who had managed to roll over on his back and was now trying to sit up from this position. Valya helped him and took his cheeks in her hands.
-"Ilya, how are you? Oh, goood damn it ... Stupid question -.."- She fidgeted, and Ilya gave her a weak smile.
-"I'm fine, don't, don't.. Valek.."- "he began softly, but then something flashed in his eyes and he pushed her away abruptly.
A moment later, the beast-lizard landed on top of him again. Valya screamed and ran for the stick. Ilya put one hand on the creature's chest, and the other grabbed its throat and sank his claws into its throat. The beast clanked its teeth and swung all its paws at the same time, scratching Ilya's lower abdomen, arms, and thighs. Valya arrived with a stick.
-"Don't touch it! Don't touch it!!" - Ilya yelled, baring his teeth at the beast with anger. He pressed harder against the animal's chest, every muscle in his body tensing. Several agonizing seconds passed and Valya could clearly see that Ilya was simply and rudely ripping out the creature's throat. A few seconds later, the creature was lying next to the exhausted Ilya in a pool of blood and a hole in his neck.
Valya was speechless. She stood rooted to the spot and stared at the bloody scene in utter shock. Ilya tried to roll over and stand up, but it didn't work and he collapsed on his stomach, his wings like heavy limp weights pinning him to the ground. He tried again and failed.
Then Valya came to her senses again. She grabbed Devorak's arm and pulled him up. Following her movement, a little more than half leaning on her, he rose. Valya threw his arm over her shoulder and wrapped her arms around his body, hugging him to her. His head tilted heavily in her direction, as if he didn't have the strength to hold it straight. Valya pressed her temple against his cheek.
-"Come on, it's not far to the farm,"- she said into his blood-spattered, tired, exhausted face.- "I'll take care of you there, but now you have walk. Come on, honey, come on."
Ilya nodded weakly and swallowed, and Valya dragged him toward their temporary shelter.
This show is turning 5 years today, bur I am lazy as hell so here are my children watching it
Late .
A cold, clinging wind blew, scattering brown, unsightly leaves here and there. Valya lifted the collar of her raincoat, trying to wrap it around her nose, and shivered. She grumbled to herself about the weather: it was only in the morning that she looked at the forecast, which promised warmth and sunshine, so she dressed accordingly. However, during the day, she managed to freeze, then she got wet through and froze again. And now she was walking home with a faint hope of getting warm.
The day didn't start well and went on the same. Valya arrived at university knee-deep brown from splashes, almost late for a lesson. More importantly, she had another fight with Hermitovsky at the seminar. No, swearing and disputes with Hermitovsky has already become a habit, and did not surprised him, nor Valya, nor her classmates. However, a situation where the professor got Valya down so devastatingly and relishly was not in the habit of anybody. Hermitovsky was exultant, Valya was tired and passively angry, and the group tried to make attempts to comfort her, but they were in vain. She was tired of this place and these people, even though she didn't dislike them, and there was only one person who could calm her nerves right now, but he was far away and she wasn't going to see him again soon.
Now Valya was walking home at an ever-increasing pace - now she wanted to go there, there, and only there. To find herself in four walls which were so close to her heart, to pat Emelya behind the ear, to wrap herself in a blanket and fall into a creaky but soft bed, watch TV shows and wait for Ilya.
However, Ilya wasn't going to go home today after the finish of his last lesson-he managed to find a part-time job, and therefore he was waiting for another two hours of sitting at the reception in the clinic after university. He wasn't supposed to be home until eight-thirty. Just the thought of this made Valya sad. She wanted to throw her arms around his neck, bury her nose in his chest, tell him everything that had happened to her today, and then, after listening to his response, realize that it wasn't so bad. After all, she was tired.
The familiar darkness of the house entrance now seemed welcoming, paradoxically. Valya took a step into this all-consuming twilight and began to climb slowly to the third floor. Groped her way to the door. Turned the key in the lock. The door creaked shrilly, and Valya darted inside and slammed it behind herself.
She heard the familiar creak of the bed from the direction of the room, which was followed by the click of claws touching the wooden floor. Emelya was coming to meet her. Valya sighed heavily: the dog was strictly forbidden to lie on the bed, but he still did it during the absence of people in the house. However, she felt no strength or desire to swear at him, on the contrary, Valya was glad to see the dog. Pinching his cheek, she took off her outer clothing and shoes on autopilot and washed her hands, then reached into the bag left on the hall table and pulled out a tempting bag of cutlets. Emelya, who was about to go back to the room, abruptly changed his mind and switched all his restrained attention to the contents of Valya's hands. She smiled warmly. Oh yes, dog, be envious, today they will have a normal meal with Ilya! Recently, due to the lack of time, finances, and both, they ate either doshiraks or fast food, which always threatened Ilya with a hard death in Hypercom, but there was nothing to do. Today, Valya will fry these fish cutlets with mashed potatoes and enjoy not only the taste of this luxurious dish, but also the face of Ilya during the dinner - this person loved fish in any form more than any food, but ate it quite rarely, at least for the last three and a half years while living in Moscow. Oh, yes, Valya was looking forward to tonight's evening with Ilya, and the more she thought about it, the more impatient she became.
The cutlets were put in the refrigerator with the potatoes, which were already made, and Valya went from the kitchen to the blanket and laptop, proudly turning on her heels. The dog, who had remained next to the table, sat there for a while longer, and finally, with a sigh of disappointment, also followed his owner into the room
Time went on. Ilya was not there. He didn't even text anything. Valya glanced at her watch. He should have left the clinic by now. He usually calls when he's out. Is he delayed?
She texted him. Five minutes passed. Ten. He didn't answer. Valya felt uneasy - usually Ilya responds if not immediately, then at least within seven minutes, especially to her. She opened the contacts. Um, what if he's having an appointment? She doesn't care, the patient will wait, she needs to find out if everything is all right with him, he knows how to get into trouble. Beep. Another beep. Lots of beeps. Beeps get on her nerves. Valya swallowed. "The subscriber is temporarily unavailable". Valya swallowed and threw the call off. Her heart skipped a beat. She called again. Same. Okay, maybe he's just going through some kind of shithole where the net doesn't work well. She needs to calm down. It's time to walk the dog.
She flew out of the house, still on the same autopilot as when she got home. She couldn't see what was happening around her. Her thoughts were only about Ilya. Only disturbing ones. Somehow. It would seem a trifle. Okay, she's just tired, she's just had a bad day. They will laugh at this situation together, it's not a big deal.
The phone vibrated in her pocket. Valya shushed Emelya to stop pulling on the leash. The dog obediently stood down and looked around, piercing his owner with a questioning, expectant look. Valya in one smooth movement took out and unlocked the phone. "Love-the subscriber is back online, you can call them." Without a second's hesitation, Valya dialed Ilya. "The subscriber's phone is busy." What? Ilya has never been a fan of talking through a mobile phone, especially with his tariff. Probably trying to call her, too. Valya disconnected the phone, and the call came almost immediately. She answered.
- Hi, Val, did you call?
- Of course I did, where are you?
- Yes, I am.. I'm going home, s-soon will be there. Er.. yes."
- "Why so late?"
- Aayaa.. circumstances. I'll tell you at home, okay? Don't waste your money, I'll be there soon!" - he sounded worried, though he tried to hide it. She could hear him breathing heavily. Valya frowned
- Ilya, are you okay?
- "It's all right, it's all right, I'll be home soon.. Listen!.. Ah, okay, it doesn't matter..
- What doesn't matter? What's going on again??
- I'll explain everything at home, everything, come on.
The call ended. Beeps get on her nerves. "Fool," Valya muttered to herself. However, Ilya is in his repertoire.
She did not notice how she returned home and wiped the dog's paws. He said he would be here soon. When is it-soon? Soon is an extensible concept. Where is he now? Where was he? Why didn't he explain it in a few words? Okay, it's okay, she needs to calm down. Soon he will come and everything will be fine.
Valya wanted to go into the room and sit down again to watch the series, in order to distract herself, but the irrepressible of the series stubbornly did not go into her head. She listened to the footsteps in the entryway, the hurried footsteps of the tenants descending, and the heavy tread of those ascending. She knew Ilya's footsteps by ear very well - her man skipped three steps at a time on his long thin legs. But even though she didn't hear the familiar footsteps, the faint hope that the key was about to turn in the keyhole, inserted, as usual, only on the third attempt, glimmered in her soul.
Ilya was still missing. Valya glanced at her watch. Half past nine. No, well, this is beyond the bounds of decency. She dialed him and heard that the caller was not available again. Her nerves were stretched to the limit. Emelya entered the room quietly and stared at Valya sympathetically. She dialed again. Uselessly. When she dropped the call and looked at her phone, she found a message. Ilya wrote:
- There is a bad connection here. Pick me up. Please
With the speed of lightning Valya scribbled:
"From where?" Where are you??
- Not far away. Beside the house on the left
-Are you feeling bad or something?
- yws
Valya swore and jumped out of bed. She didn't care if she was wearing light house clothes - she immediately threw on a raincoat, got into the first shoes she saw, and flew out of the flat. It seemed that she even forgot to close the door behind her, but that was the least of her worries. Halfway down, Valya swore again and turned on her heel. She ran into the apartment, into the kitchen, threw two sugar cubes and a piece of bread into her pocket, and then just as quickly flew back to the entrance, leaving Emelya perplexed at the entrance to the apartment and confused to transfer the look of intelligent dog eyes from the door to the shelves with food in proud solitude.
Fool. Fool, fool, fool. It's not the first time Ilya's sugar drops in a public place, it's not the first time. Again, he had nothing with him to make it okay and walk home. In this state, he would get sick and dizzy, his hands would shake and his temperature would rise, he would feel sick and generally feel like shit. It ended with the fact that he was losing orientation in space and fell out of the blue. Apparently, in this state, he wrote to Valya, and now she was rushing to the place at maximum speed, almost praying that her faithful man would not fall into hypocoma.
She ran into the courtyard of the right house. It was drizzling, and there were puddles that merged into local lakes. In the dusk, the wet streetlamps glittered with warm orange light, giving Valya a view of the modest playground, which she rushed to. But Ilya wasn't there. Cursing everything and everyone, she looked around. He's gone. He's nowhere to be found.
- Val..!
A faint voice echoed as if from far away. She turned toward the sound. Drops hung from her lashes, obscuring her vision. She blinked and looked up at the dark archway she was now standing by.
The sound was repeated from the archway, but she couldn't see anything.
"Ilya, is that you?" she shouted, and took a step forward.
- Yes, that's me.
In a few jumps Valya was at the entrance to the arch. Here, on the corner, Ilya was sitting on the wet asphalt. Half of his coat was soaked in a puddle. Why, he was wet to the skin himself. When he saw her, he smiled faintly and tried to get up, but then collapsed back down. Valya flew up to him and squatted down next to him.
- Ilya, tell me, do you use brains? When are you going to start checking your pockets for sugar?" - she asked, taking a sugar cube out of her pockets and carefully slipping it between his lips. - "I almost fucking bit my elbows off while I was waiting for you and trying to contact you. How did that happen?"
"Don't ask, I'm a fool." - he said, slipping a second lump of sugar into his cheek. - "I swear I had some candy this morning, I didn't eat it. Maybe someone pulled it out."
- Yeah, yes, of course." - Valya helped him up. Ilya got up and, with one hand half resting on her arm, proudly adjusted the collar of his coat, as if he had just been sitting in a Mercedes instead of in a puddle, and took the cherished step towards the house. Valya walked beside him, holding him.
"Well," - she said, shaking her head. - "I'm waiting for an explanation."
"Well, what can I tell you," - Ilya chuckled. -" I left the clinic-.."
-" Wait." - Valya took a piece of bread from her pocket and handed it to him. - "Chew and tell, go ahead."
- "Well, hah, I came out of the clinic", - Ilya shoved the bitten-off piece of bread in cheek. - "it was all right. As I walked past the bus stop, my head started to ache and I tensed up, which is understandable. I'm a doctor, I know where this is going."
- "I am a doooctoor!" - Valya mimicked. - "Could you not, I don't know, steal a candy from the supermarket again, is the first time you do so? Or is calling me for help in this lousy weather some kind of romantic gesture?"
- "Well, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'll compensate!" - Ilya began to justify himself. -" I went to shops, had views of sweets, but everywhere there were cameras, people, I would have been noticed. On the other hand," - he smiled ingratiatingly and wagged an eyebrow. - "I gave us a bit of an adventure today, didn't I? One lover in trouble, and the other, like a knight on a white horse - .."
- "Rushes to rescue this lumpen from a puddle, yes. Romance is such that Pushkin turned over in his grave, and all my friends died from envy." - Valya finished for him.
Ilya nudged her with his hip as a sign of resentment. Valya did not remain in debt and pushed him. He almost fell, and she caught him.
They entered the house with the sound of mutual giggling. A tired-looking man stepped out of a second-floor apartment and asked them to be quiet. Ilya masterfully apologized. Finally, they reached their floor
- "Can you handle it, or may I help you?" - Valya asked, taking off her raincoat and turning to look at Ilya, who sat down wearily on the nightstand.
- "Come on, I'll do it on my own, I'm full of energy!" - Ilya smiled. - 'Although.."
- Oh, go fuck yourself!
- I wanted you to do this but okay. Understood, accepted.
Valya went to the kitchen and took out those unfortunate cutlets. Ilya came in behind her, holding on to the wall, and dropped into the nearest chair, letting out a tired "oohh".
- And you how was your day? - he asked, leaning his head on his hand.
- Disgustingly. - Valya put the food on to warm up. - Argued with Hermitovsky again.
- How is it this time?
- Unsuccessfully. - she turned to face Ilya and froze in place. - You... how are you feeling?
- Me? Great, just great! What? - he looked up and smiled. Stiffly.
-"You look so pale." - Valya frowned.
-"I'm always pale."
-"You're paler than your usual pale."
-"Val, I'm feeling better, really, thank you, don't worry. Maybe I haven't just moved on yet."
It was true that he was much paler than usual - the color of his skin now looked like a sheet of absolutely white paper, and his thin, bluish lips were still curved in a smile that Valya might have believed in if she hadn't known him for so long. His entire body was trembling slightly, and he looked as if he was about to collapse to the floor, but he persisted in pretending that everything was fine with him.
"Are you cold?" - Valya guessed.
"I'm telling you, I'm fine, you don't have to-.. -" Ilya began, but Valya had already left the kitchen and returned with a blanket.
- "Here, sit." - she draped it over Ilya's shoulders and left a light kiss on his forehead. His pale, freckled cheeks flushed. He lowered his eyes and pulled the blanket further over his forearms, mumbling a quiet "thank you" under his breath. Almost immediately, a plate of dinner rolled across the small table, and the heat and smell of fish cutlets hit him in the face. Ilya's jaw dropped. He opened his eyes wide, his gaze darting from the plate to Valya and back again. Valya was grinning contentedly, her arms crossed over her chest.
- That.. this is what..? - he tried to formulate a question, but it didn't work
"This is normal food!" - Valya declared proudly
-"Where did you-"
-"Went to mother" - Valya heaved a sigh and sat down at her own plate.
- "Ah .. the day was that disgusting.."- Ilya hesitantly took hold of the devices
- "Come on." - Valya took a bite of the cutlet and smiled mischievously. - "She's never going to talk me into moving back. After all, where would you go without me?"
Valya winked, and Ilya smiled.
- "Into a puddle." - he joked.
This was probably the best dinner they'd had in two months. Ilya was hard to do happy face, he laughed. The evening finally became warm and cozy with his arrival. He was always able to cheer Valya up, even when he was absolutely beaten up.
P.s I wanted to make some illustrations for this for some time, I've actually written this a long time ago, somewhere in autumn. But i didn't manage it, so here you go a random pic of Ilya amd Val together with him being not in his best condition and her looking a him like he is dump or yes.
