So I’m reading Ragnarok, second book in the Valhalla series. There’s a list of the famous words spoken by people who’ve landed on various celestial bodies for the first time.

On the moon, it’s that whole “one small step for man” thing.

On Mars, “I wish that the peace I see here could bless Earth again.”

On Halley’s Comet, someone said “This one’s for you, Mark Twain”.

And then, from the first humans to land on Venus, “Oh my holy fucking shit I think we’re on the fucking ground! Get us up we’re gonna fucking die!”
