Bro is ANYBODY on the Barbaric Archipelago a GOOD PARENT ????
valhallarama, character of all time. she's 6'3", she's built like an oak tree, she's an absent mother with a doting husband, she fails her lifelong quest because her son is the chosen one but helps him out anyway, her pet cat is called fiddlesticks, she's a canonically great swordsman, she rides the fastest dragon in the archipelago, she starts a revolution for her son after he reads her for filth, her epic failed romance haunts the narrative a little bit, "you are not my first love but you are my last", her dad is a really bad soothsayer, she's so so so in love with her family, she's her husband's emotional rock, 'chunky thighs' is literally in her title

One thing I like a lot about the httyd books is the variety of villains/antagonists there are. Let me explain:
First you have antagonists that aren't really antagonists, like Stoick, Valhallarama and Humungously Hotshot the Hero for example. They are antagonists only in the sense that they go against Hiccup for a short amount of time, usually due to misunderstandings, and they then often go on to become invaluable allies to him.
Then there are villains like Alvin and the Witch. Truly despicable characters with little to no redeeming factors. They are written to be hated, and exist in the story to foil Hiccup at every point possible. For me, they stand as a warning to what can happen if you base your life around hatred and vengeance.
Then, there are villains like Snotlout. Characters who seemed destined to become like Alvin and the Witch, who seemed like they had no chance at redeeming themselves after everything they'd done. But beyond all odds, they did. At the last moment he changed, and that saved him from being destined to remaining a hated villain. Beyond all odds, he became a hero.
And finally, there are villains like the Dragon Furious. Villains who are fighting for a just cause. Who don't commit atrocities for no reason, who genuinely justifies all of their actions for good reasons. He's a villain who makes you think, who makes you sympathise with them, and who makes you wonder if they should really be deemed as a villain at all. Despite all of the horrible things he's done, even at the age of 8 years old, I always wondered if the Dragon Furious was right. The thing that ends up distinguishing Furious as a villain rather than a hero, is that unlike the hero, he immediately turns to violent options rather than peaceful ones.
Anyways, those are my thoughts :-) I'm not the most eloquent or insightful when it comes to analysis stuff, but I hope my ideas are coherent
There’s a reason why I like Valhallarama more than valka , both of them were deadbeats and chose to do something other than spending time with their sons , like both of them aren’t good moms let’s be real that’s their most notable flaw , but the thing that makes me like valhallarama more is that moment in the later books where she stood for hiccup after all that time and risked herself with the slave mark for her son , it felt like a truly a mother and a son moment, but when it comes to valka she never had a moment were she was close to her son , I know her flying with hiccup is fun but its still not enough, you can replace valka with a random villager that got disappeared long time ago and it wouldn’t be so different for hiccup ( for hiccup only her and stoick are nice ) I wouldn’t have a problem with this if it was addressed, even in the time skip special valka is not there .
I don’t hate valka I swear her having a flaw is interesting, I just wish it was addressed .
IT'S DONE I CANNOT BELIEVE IT'S DONE
ANIMATIC!! ANIMATIC!!!!!
it's really more of a pmv but STILL IT'S FOUR MINUTES OF HTTYD AND THAT'S ENOUGH FOR ME
My fav Hiccups in chronological order
Stoick and Valhallarama are exactly what everyone thinks Stalka is: A genuine love story that is properly written and that despite trials and tribulations, has resisted the tides of time, with said love remaining intact.
