Valley
Video Games played in 2018 🎮 (Part 2)
I just finished Valley and for a video game with so few characters I am having so many feelings
Valley - Launch Trailer
Also recommended to watch First Look trailer and Story trailer
A first-person adventure game developed by Blue Isle Studios, the same people behind “Slender: The Arrival”, where you can run super fast, jump high into the air and manipulate life and death with a single blast. More cool stuff comes with upgrades for your L.E.A.F. suit (stands for Leap Effortlessly through Air Functionality). It’s an awesome adventure with lots of momentum (yes, momentum, so watch your step when sprinting and jumping).

It’s not really top-notch graphics for a new gen game, but the visuals in general are gorgeous and sometimes eerie in the darker parts so this game is very atmospheric. The music is amazing, the story is very intriguing that makes you want to keep going to uncover more secrets and messages and the level designs vary a lot along the way. It surprised me of the level variation when I was first only expecting hills, valleys and mountains basking in sunlight and you run around like a kid on a field but there are a lot more and darker than that.
The cons is that the game has a few bugs and there’s no checkpoint system, which means if you quit the game halfway through a level and later come back you have to start from the beginning of that level. So to avoid that you have to finish the level you’re on. However, any collectibles and secrets you already found on a level will be saved to your progress even if you quit halfway through that level. You can also backtrack to any level to find missing collectibles and other secrets in the Travel menu. Unfortunately, backtracking won’t always give you the same epic music experiences like on your first visits but either the music changes or it’s silent. On a positive note, you can start a new game in another save slot (up to 4) and enjoy the adventure once again.
It’s a rather short game with a linear path and lots of exploration and I’d say it’s worth the experience. I also recommend you to pay a lot of attention while exploring as it also features a very cool Easter Egg across the locations including many notes to read to uncover more of the story and other interesting messages.
Personally I feel that this is like if you would mix the aesthetics (and some functions) of the Amnesia games and the Bioshock games with Slender: The Arrival. Maybe a little bit of Dishonored too. This is the game you get.
I couldn’t recommend "Valley” more. It’s definitely one of the best indie games of 2016 that I played.
Available on PS4, Xbox One and Steam.
