Visored Bascinet from France dated between 1390 - 1410 on display at the Wallace Collection in London, England
The "muzzle" of the helmet formed a glancing surface to delfect incoming weapons, especially arrows. The visor portects the face during the initial advance into battle, but can be raised or removed for close combat, increasing vision and ventilation. The brass studs around the base supported a mantle of mail covering the neck and shoulders.
During the Hundred Years War the French nobility pushed for bascinets such as this. In 1384 King Louis I of Anjou ordered the production of a substantial amount of armour including helmets such as this. In 1410 Charles, Duke of Orleans, distributed similar armour to his soldiers. Though only the knights would have had the muzzle part of the helmet.

“Queen Anna of the Netherlands, Papa's sister, visited us on her way back from some resort where she had been receiving treatment. I only saw her once, at some reception, in a yellow dress covered in pearls and diamonds. With her haughty face and cold gaze, she was completely unlike Papa. She seemed to be in a bad mood, but generally, people were afraid of her.”
- Queen Olga of Wurttemberg, second daughter of Emperor Nicholas I of Russia, on her aunt, nee Grand Duchess Anna Pavlovna.

Louis III of Anjou (1403-1434) was invested King of Naples by Pope Martin V on December 4, 1419.
The second House of Anjou to rule Provence was deeply oriented towards France: Louis III of Anjou abandoned plans for conquest in Italy and went to fight the English alongside the King of France in 1426. He was one of Joan of Arc's companions and attended the coronation at Reims in 1429.
He died of malaria on 12 November 1434 in Calabria, at Cosenza.
