Mistaken or not, Orion had assumed that the young boy was looking at his horns (which, if you asked him, he was justly proud of).

“I will forgive you for staring, since you seem rightfully in awe.”

“VALT!!” The name burst through his own two lips as he wandered into Sector oo6 for an adventure due to boredom, suddenly targeting an all too familiar head of blue spiky hair and bolting toward the sight.

Kensuke was so overwhelmingly happy to see his friend and former team captain that he literally clung to him, hugging him close with no intent to let go.

Once he pulled away and gave the brightest of smiles, he couldn’t help but hug him once more. “Valt! We’ve all been looking for you, and here you are, several Sectors away!”

Into the Fire

If there was one boon to the situation, it was that Shuu and Valt hadn’t been separated when they were beamed back to Hive City proper.

That was the only good thing. Still soaking wet from their watery excursion, Shuu and Valt were greeted with the horrific sight of ghost-like monsters swarming the skies of the city. And they were hostile. 

It was all Shuu could do to pull the injured Valt behind him. The destruction was already clear; citizens had abandoned the streets in a panic, leaving stores dark and in a mess. Shuu ducked into one and tugged Valt after him, retreating into the darkest corner of the store as wraiths flew about outside.

“We should be safe for now...” He glanced at Valt, and his eyes drifted to the open wounds in his arm, still bleeding heavily. Shuu’s eyes scanned the darkened wares for anything he could use, and settled on a roll of tissue paper. He tore open the package and handed Valt a sheet.

“Press this over the cuts and apply pressure, even if it hurts. ...How do you feel?”

Returning the Favour

His first thought upon waking up was the panic-filled dread that he was going to drown.

But as he thought he would breathe his last, the burning cold of frigid water flooding his mouth and nose never came. Instead, Shuu found that he could breathe very easily despite being surrounded by water.

The shock of being able to breathe underwater faded into confusion. When had he decided to come here? Shuu had barely become acquainted with the main city and dared not stray into the outer districts. And then he remembered that strange voice that seemed to echo throughout Hive City’s skies, and realized that this must’ve been the orchestration of the scientists.

Valt...

Shuu’s mind immediately strayed to Valt’s safety, and more motivated to get a feel for his surroundings, Shuu kicked off the ocean floor. Though he could breathe, the water was still very much water, and he found quickly that he could swim through it. 

He had to find Valt... If Valt was even here. But his senses were overwhelmed by the new environment, and so focused was he on finding his way around that he didn’t notice an unwelcome follower...

“...?!”

Until its jaws were almost upon him.

*starts singing off-key*

“Valt-kun, I think you should stop now! Jack’s taking a nap...”

Eventually, Valt’s puppy dog eyes won him over and Tasuku began singing along off-key too...
