#value painting

Painted my family dog Sebastian (Sebby for short). I had drawn the initial sketch back in 2022, it was essentially a 16 minute doodle. I have been making a habit to look through old work and to properly finish them, and this has been one of those artworks!

Been playing around with Gradient Maps and its been a ton of fun to add life to my familiar black and white value paintings. After being away from art for 2 years (2023-2024), I have been experimenting and returning to continue my studies and improving my work this year. Adding color and painting with their values in mind was challenging, but a lot of fun!

I'm really happy with how this looks! I wasn't quite satisfied in the middle of it but trusting the process worked!

I think I could make the shoulders bigger and could emphasize the body expression plus make the neck a little thinner and the face was a little more tilted to the left in the ref image which all gave the photo a little more emotion.

But being able to analyze my art and understand what to work on is a skill in itself!

Did a few still life value painting studies in class this week, felt relatively proud so I thought I'd post :)

We're doing 8-value paintings in art class and it surprisingly didn't turn out too bad

Now I wanna do one for Hopper and Flik 😂
