Woke up in the middle of the night and feeling absolutely unwell at the thought of Saturnia “meeting” her Darling for the first time at a fancy masked ball 🥺

hey! could you tell us a bit about the vampire moth? the concept sounds so cute!!

Of course~! Thank you 🥺

Our vampire moth is 7 ft tall, spindly, and preternaturally quiet for being so tall. She has hard skin, not quite hard enough to be a true exoskeleton, with a layer of fuzz all over that is slightly longer between her antennae. Her compound eyes have a hypnotic— or maybe just petrifying— quality about them.

The winged being that follows you from the shadows has really only one thing in mind— your safety. She believes herself to be level-headed in her hunts, in who she chooses to drain.

The fact that most of those people are close to you is… incidental. And if people begin to spread rumors about you, avoid you saying you’re bad luck, all the better for her to keep watch over you undisturbed.

You are something holy and sacred to her. Love may not be the right word. She reveres you.

She’ll only reveal herself if she senses danger on the horizon, much like her cousin the Mothman, or if you go searching for her…

Her sense of hearing isn’t strong, so you might actually be able to sneak up behind her if she’s sleepy. And despite being able to produce a range of sounds quite beyond that of humans, both lower and higher in pitch, she cannot speak any human language. She can sign in a few different sign languages, and can listen, write, and read a few languages as well.

She’s also a very good writer, having her poetry published anonymously in local magazines and newspapers. Her style is striking and her content both romantic and macabre, making her poetry a favorite among the local teenagers and young women in particular.

Her wings, unlike a true moth or butterfly, can go from soft and fabric-like to stick-straight and flight-ready at will. Often, if walking, she lets her wings droop down around her like a cape. If you startle or fluster her, you may notice her wings beginning to fluff up and flutter a little.

She also has two sets of arms— all the better to hug you with, right? 🥰
