Think about it: Lesbian vampire who has centuries of experience and doesn't know things are more accepting of queer people now, and she has a son now who likes guys but was raised with his mother who didn't know how things have changed, so it made him scared of his identity.

In their defense, this edition was published 1968 here in Germany. I didn’t even thought they would use the word „gay“ back then
