Vampire dynamic/story tropes I adore / Part 1(?)

Abandoned newborn/fledging gets picked up by a begrudging experienced vampire and becomes their surrogate sire. Bonus points if the fledging is instantly attached and the older vampire takes a little while to realise that they are too. This one is probably my favourite.

Person who comes from a family of hunters/is a vampire hunter themselves gets bitten and turned and has to navigate new vampiric life while struggling with their pre-existing perceptions and misconceptions of vampires. This normally goes one of two ways: either the vampire struggles and is found out by their hunter family, being rejected and pushed entirely into the nightlife, joining a coven and understanding that they didn’t understand vampirism in the first place. Or, they are found out/confess to their vampirism and are accepted - hesitantly or not - by their hunter family and they all evolve and learn together.

Following on from hunters, vampires who very obviously don’t know what they are doing or are ‘tamer’ than the average vampire come face to face with a vampire hunter. The hunter frightens the hell out of them, but takes pity or realises that this vampire isn’t so bad and agrees to take them under their wing/spare them.

Vampire and werewolf who are forced to get along and realise the other isn’t so bad. I normally see this in a romantic sense but honestly, non-romantic scenarios for this are so fun too. I think I’m just a sucker for two parties with underlying conflict coming together to better understand and accept one another.

Family of all vampires that want to branch out into the modern world but it’s painfully obvious that everyone is very clearly out of the loop. Its normally quite corny but I do enjoy the trope of a character so painfully not of this century trying to adjust and act like they are and always have been. I am a fan of WWDITS if you can’t tell.

Imagine...

Under a moonlit night, you walk through the an alley for a shortcut when you feel a sharp pain in the back of your neck. There's a scuffle, before two warm arms pick you up, sinking their own fangs into you while whispering apologies as they rush you into the woods beyond...

Next thing you know it, you wake up to find yourself in soft, silky sheets and a cotton nightgown with a fanged stranger keeping watch. Screaming curses and throwing a nearby candle at him, you learn this so called monster turned you to save your life after another vampire attacked

"I just couldn't let someone with so much life in their eyes bleed out," he whispers, "And you reminded me of someone I knew long ago."

A pain rips through you, tearing you apart as your new Sire grips your hand, not minding as your nails dig into his palms. Assuring you that you can fight it, he stays by as the change takes place, seeing as your eyes turn crimson and fangs grow with fire in your veins. In the haze of it all, you seek him out, the bond of a spawn already in place, instinctually finding his hold. Quietly, he takes you into his arms, letting you cry as you come to terms with your immortality, not flinching in your anger or becoming smug when you thank him for letting you live. All he does is simply hold, and does not flinch as your mouth finds his neck, sinking in as you drink hungrily, wiping away your tears with a careful gentleness.

Shushing you, he whispers against your hair, "It's alright, drink up as much as you need." He rubs your back, making a vow silently as he takes your hand, "I'll always be there, as long as our immortal lives, I will not leave you."

OK, so, the biggest thing about Twilight that I just don’t get os why are males vampires firtile but female vampires aren’t.

Like, historically, I get it. The patriarchy. But like, in modern times why can male vamps be fertile but female vamps are infirtile.

Cause, like, think about it. Afab people are born with all the eggs they’ll ever have. But Amab people produce semen daily. So if we are to classify vampires as undead, it would make more sense for afab vamps to be fertile and amab vamps not to be as you die with all your eggs but not all your sperm.

All afab vamps eggs died with them. Undead eggs = undead babies possible. But sperm gets made everyday so what’s in your junk when you die is what can become undead offspring. All future semen is sterile. Ok, the melatonin and THC are starting to kick in, I’m gonna stop before this makes even less sense ...

Ok character story idea:

There is a part of vampire lore that if you kill a vampires "sire" or the vamp that made that person a vamp, they will die too. So we end up with Vampbabe and they're usually pretty chill. A great friend who you can trust to hold your cup at a club or party and they're always cracking jokes and generally being there for you. Sometimes they joke that they'd die for you and, honestly you don't doubt that they'd jump in front of you and take a stake to the heart if it means you could get away safely.

Anyways, we have big bad vamploser come in and you can tell from the start theres some history. If you ask though, vampbabe makes light "yeah most old vamps have hung out at some point lol it's cool to have a constant/familiarity with the world always changing like it does" but it seems somehow deeper than that.

Eventually vamploser becomes enough of a problem that you (or the squad, I imagine like a handful of people being close friends with vampbabe and getting nonfatally attacked by vamploser one by one before the vampbabes best friend gets attacked, as a bit of a last straw) anyways you come to vampbabe like "hey none of us are strong or fast enough to defeat vamploser we need you to kill them" and just..

Vampbabe gets a solemn face and disappears for a couple hours before coming back and accepting. (Meanwhile the squad wonders if vampbabe will take the side of "oh vamploser is an old friend, humans are fleeting, vampfam for life") vampbabe takes the squad put for a moment of reprieve. Insert confessions of deep caring and/or "I want you to take this insane gift, such as all the wealth I have acquired since before jesus" and vampbabe gives the whole squad a token or something "I love you all deeply. If I cannot defeat vamploser, you humans can use *tokens* in this way to get rid of them. This is only a last resort. Be safe."

And on goes the boss fight. Vamploser and vampbabe are going blow for blow. Mind games, snarky comments, a level of hostility that the squad never knew that vampbabe had. And then in the final moments, vampbabe has control, they have won the fight already but it isnt over yet.

Vamploser looks to vampbabe with wide fearful eyes before smirking and narrowing their eyes "vampbabe, darling, you know you cant kill me. You love being alive too much." And one person after another makes the connection with that sentence as they watch in horror. Vampbabe was about to kill their sire. For the squad. They all rush to gather their tokens in the manner that vampbabe explained, in hopes that vampbabe wouldn't have to be the one to kill themself. But it's too late. They fall with hopeless eyes on a pile of ashes and vampbabe disintegrating right next to it. They smile weakly before they are gone.

Squad gathers the pile of ashes that vampbabe fell into, holding it as an urn, each wearing a keepsake around their neck with their tokens. Vampbabe wont be forgotten.

I would be the world’s loneliest vampire because in order to turn someone it seems to be an unwritten rule that you bite your wrist or cut it or something in order to get some ready blood and I hate even the thought of needles let alone tearing my wrist open on multiple occasions how the hell am I supposed to propagate the vampire race
