Devils’ Line is set in a world where vampires live alongside humans, mostly hidden in plain sight. Their greatest struggle is not immortality, but bloodlust. Once they lose control, they become dangerous.
Devils’ Line is underrated because for many viewers it is
too serious
too dark
and very different from the typical romantic vampire anime
Yet these exact qualities make it especially compelling for fans of mature, psychologically deep stories.
Central theme
What does it mean to love someone who could hurt you at any moment?
And how much control do we truly have over ourselves?
That is why Devils’ Line often feels so uncomfortably intense. It is less fantasy romance and more psychological drama with vampires.
My hope for a continuation has been fulfilled with Devils’ Line II.
The sequel runs quietly in the background and is currently only officially available in Japanese. Still, a translation will likely come sooner or later. In recent years, older and underrated series have often been licensed retroactively, especially as streaming platforms and manga apps continue to grow. If enough international interest becomes visible through reviews, social media, and demand, the chances increase significantly.
“So are you gonna tell me how she knew who you were?” Riyoshi asked angrily, leaning against the door of my room. He stared at me waiting for a reply. I ignored him and sat at my desk opening up my laptop.
“Akio why does Yua know who you are?!”
“She’s probably just imagining things.” I told him tapping away on my computer keyboard. Riyoshi stood beside me and leaned down so we were eye level. He slammed the computer shut. I turned to face him, annoyed.
“She remembered you. How could you be so careless? What if Amelia finds out huh?”
“She didn’t and she won’t. Stop overreacting. I had an altercation with her so-called boyfriend but that’s it. For him to be a full vampire he didn’t put up much of a fight” I scoffed at the last part remembering the fight. Riyoshi walked angrily reaching for the door handle.
“You got into a fight with another vampire? “I really hate how chill you can be. You fucked up and you know it.” He snarled, slamming the door shut.
Staring at the door I shook my head in annoyance at Riyoshi’s anger. ”If only he knew I was staring at Hikari and slipped up by accident becuase my dumb ass couldn’t stop staring. I mean the girl’s beautiful I couldn’t help myself….Wait what am I even thinking? I think i’ve lost it. It's better if Riyoshi doesn’t find out about this.” Slapping my hands on my face in frustration I flop onto my bed and stare at my ceiling.
“The hell am I gonna do about this?” sighing. “That girl is going to drive me crazy isn't she?”
A few hours later it was time to do my work in the kitchen. I stood in silence next to Riyoshi peeling potatoes while he chopped onions. I glanced over at him a few times to see that he still was angry. “Wow he really can hold a grudge.” I rolled my eyes. I technically didn't do anything wrong.
“I really wanna know what was going through your mind!” Riyoshi all but yelled out “I’m angry because you're always careful. What had you so distracted?”
I couldn't tell him that Hikari distracted me right? He probably throw me across the room and go back to chopping onions like nothing ever happened. By the way he was staring at me I knew he knew something was up. I hate that he could always read me.
“Okay, fine. I was watching Hikari. Even on days when we weren’t supposed to be watching them. “I just found myself drawn to her. Some part of me always wanted to be with her. The way she smiled and showed her little dimple was cute. Wow I really sound like a stalker. What the hell was wrong with me?
“Ok Akio i’m starting to think Kira wasn’t a good enough lesson for you at all.” Riyoshi sighed looking disappointed but amused at the same time.
“Kira was not that bad.” I defended.
“Shall I jog your memory? Kira was literally just a piece of ass to you. And when you told her that you didn’t wanna see her anymore she tried to burn you alive. Or do you not remember?”
“I don’t remember it happening exactly like that.” I mumbled.
“This is why you shouldn't sleep with the enemy, But she was pretty enough for you to crack I guess.” Riyoshi shrugged “In my opinion Yua looks pretty damn good though.” Smirking like a creep.
“And you're mad at me? Let’s just put all this behind us and focus on our mission.” Neither of us seen Levi peeking his big ass head watching us and soaking in all the information he could with a huge smile on his face.
“Aren’t we technically compromised? I mean you seem pretty infatuated. Man you're not gonna be able to do shit. On the other hand I have no issue.”
“I got this man. I don’t know why i’m like this. I’ve never felt this before but I promise bringing her in is no issue however killing her maybe.”
Riyoshi nodded his head in approval. “Ok then let's focus on the bigger issue we have.”
“What’s that?”
“The boyfriend that you said you fought. He’s definitely gonna be a problem.”
“Not with the way he fights. The fool isn’t properly trained.”
“Since he knows we have to take him into account. Did you do the kicks when fighting him? Throw him off a bit haha.”
“I did but I didn't really need to.” I laughed remembering that night.
Riyoshi busted out laughing and I joined him. After that we went back to cooking since we wasted enough time already and had little time to finish.
“Boys Mia needs your help in the dining-. What the hell have you two been doing? None of the prep work is done.” Ameila asked in annoyance.
“Well you see what had happened was Akio was having some girl issues and I helped him but don't worry everything will be prepped in no time.”Riyoshi told her and ushered her out of the kitchen. I stared at him blankly and he went back to chopping onions while laughing.
Yua’s pov
Hikari and I were sitting in her bed. I was watching a movie while she was reading manga. We had a plate of cookies between us that we had just baked. It had been a few days since we ran into the boys. The powers haven't came back and neither Hikari nor I have had any weird dreams. I could hear our parents downstairs arguing again.
“What do you think they’re fighting about this time?”
“Who knows.” I sighed . They had been fighting a lot more since that night dad came home late. Some days where okay and other nights our family dinners were awkward.
I looked at Hikari seriously. “This is why we can't tell mom and dad anything. They already have their own problems.”
“But Yua we might die if we dont! News flash those boys tried to kill us! And you're just like oh you have handsome blue eyes who does that?!” Hikari snapped at me
“Well either way we can't tell them Hikari. And will it kill you to think positively about things that don't speak death into existence.”
“You skipped my blue eyed comment.” She grumbled
“Because he has handsome blue eyes and I'm not taking that back. By the way did you get a good look at the older one oh my god.”
“Get out of my room now.” She deadpanned staring at me.
I busted out laughing as she pushed me out of her room slamming the door. I love messing with her. Walking into my room I laid on my bed and stared at my ceiling “What are we gonna do?”
I closed my eyes and rolled on my left side . I slowly opened my eyes when I looked out my window there were two figures facing my direction who looked like the boys from earlier. I immediately jumped out of my bed and ran towards my door but when I looked back towards the window nothing was there. `
I walked towards my window to get a closer look and nothing was there. “Did I really see something or am I hallucinating?” I shrugged, brushing it off closing my window and curtains cause I didn’t need to be spooked again. “Guess I’ll get ready for bed.” Grabbing my bathing supplies and going to the bathroom. I got into the hot water and relaxed my tight muscles. Maybe Hikari was right. We should just stay here. In the meantime I was gonna find that blue eyed boy and throw hands cause he was doing way too much. Or maybe just stare at his handsome face. I ginned thinking about that. “Oh my god Haru would kill me if he heard what I was thinking.” As if on cue my phone that was laying on the sink counter rung. Picking it up, Haru's contact photo lit up my screen.
I laid in bed waiting for Akio to get ready. I low key felt bad for the girls who were sleeping in the room across from us. They really had no idea where they came from or who they are. All this time we spent watching them and trying to capture them they didn't even know they were vampires. While the girls were still asleep Akio and I went to the store as soon as it opened so no one would notice us in case more VHA members were close by. We kept the safe house a secret from everyone there so it would be hard to find. They might be able to pick up on our scents though. We got enough to last for a while seeing we were going to stay here for the time being. A little while later we sat at the dining room table eating breakfast.
“We should probably help you train, you know in case we get attacked again.” I said after eating. “Get changed and we’ll meet you in the back.” The back led to a forest that had a clearing. Akio and I would come here to train from time to time.
“We’ll train you individually. We both specialize in something different so you have a lot to learn.”
“I'll train with Akio.” Hikari said, stepping closer to him grabbing his hand. I could see his cheeks turn a light pink shade. Akio rarely got flustered. “I'm sorry Riyoshi but you terrify me.” Hikari said. Akio turned to face her. “And what I don’t?”
“Not as much.” she replied, dragging him along the path away from us. I could see them heading to the other clearing and still holding hands.
“Looks like I have no say in this. I’m stuck with a guy who doesn’t know when to not be a asswhole” Yua complained with her arms crossed over her chest.
“Really princess just when I thought we were getting along.” I said sarcastically, giving Yua a devilish grin.
She cut her eyes at me before speaking again. “ There you go again. Do you ever stop, we've been arguing forever but I can go longer.”
I sighed. “Look Princess, that's just me and you're gonna have to get used to it. If it makes you feel any better I do feel bad for hunting you down after realizing you guys didn’t even know what you were.”
“Wow you're capable of feeling bad?” She asked sarcastically.
I smirked at her. “Yes, I am. Don’t make me take it back.”
She nodded her head giving a small smile. “Ok then.”
That small smile she gave caught me by surprise. She was beautiful. I couldn’t lie about that. Snapping out of my thoughts I cleared my throat. “Alright how’s your upper body strength?”
“I don’t even know if I have upper body strength to be real with you. My legs are very strong though.”
I nodded. Then walked over to the doorway to the house and tapped the training bar I had attached to it. “Think you can do at least ten pull-ups?”
“I mean I can try.” She said as she walked over to me and put her hand on the bar handles.
“Switch your hands the other way.” I instructed.
“Ok.” She said following my instructions and slowly lifted herself up. She was doing fine for the most part until she got to six and was ready to quit. “ I can’t do it anymore, my arms hurt.”
As she tried to drop down I grabbed her waist. I felt an electricity shoot through me as my hands touched her skin. “Keep going and make it to ten.”
“I can’t.” She whined
“Never say you can't, you have four more tough it up.” I let go of her waist and she worked up the strength and did the last four before dropping down and groaning as she hugged her arms together.
“See you did it.”
She glared at me. “My arms are killing me.”
“You’ll be fine. All you need is practice and with me helping you--”
“I’ll be dead by next week with you helping me. I want a new teacher.”
I laughed at her whining. “You're stuck with me princess.”
“Why do you keep calling me princess?”
I was caught off guard by that. I cleared my throat. “No reason.” I said as I walked away
I felt someone kick me in my back. “Were you going teacher?”
I just raised an eyebrow and looked at her.
“You know what I think?”
I shrugged. “What.”
“I think you like me which is why you're a jerk ninety percent of the time.”
“What gave you that idea.”
“Hikari. And the fact that you call me princess all the time.”
“Huh Interesting.”
“Don’t worry I think it’s cute that you have a crush on me. I mean I am very pretty, however I am a taken woman.”
“I never said--”
“So what’s the next drill.”
This girl was something else. I liked the fact that she was confident and strong headed. “ Let's test your core.”
“Ok, sit ups?” She asked and When I nodded she started almost immediately.
3 hours later…….
Yua and I were wrapping up our training when a dagger came flying in my direction and sliced the side of my neck.
“Ahh.” I hissed as I touched my neck and then saw blood. “Where the fuck?”
“Oh my god! Are you ok?” Yua asked as she got closer but then she gasped and suddenly took a step back.
“I’m fine, just a little scratch is all.” I looked Yua in the eyes and noticed her eye color was changing to a bright red. “There's that bloodthirst I was talking about.”
“Why am I suddenly so thirsty? And why do you smell so good?” She began to walk towards me one more time. I stayed put curious at what she would do.
The closer she got the hungrier she looked which made me wonder how long it had been since she started feeling this way. I wanted to see how long she could go. “ When did you awaken your powers again?” She didn’t answer as she stopped right in front of me staring at the blood dripping from my neck.
“Yua.” I called her name and she looked me in the eye. This time I didn’t see just her red eyes, I saw her fangs. I slowly took a step back before speaking to her again. “You're not in your right mind now.”
She moved faster than my eyes could blink which told me her vampire instincts were fully active at the moment and she had her fangs in my shoulder. Two minutes later she let go practically jumping away from me and she was breathing frantically.
“Oh my god i’m sorry I didn’t mean to-”
I put my hand up to stop her rambling. “It’s fine, it didn't even hurt.”
“It’s not fine.” Yua said, her eyes tearing up. I took a step toward her and she instantly backed away and ran into the house.
“Yua!” I called after her but she ignored me and kept going.
I sighed. “I guess she’s taking being a vampire harder than I thought.” I looked towards the door she disappeared behind. Then I decided to go bandage my bleeding shoulder. After I walked out of the bathroom I found Yua sitting on the couch wiping the tears off her face. I sat next to her and she looked up.
“I'm sorry.” she mumbled looking down again.
“I told you it’s fine. You’ll get used to it. Plus if I wanted to I could have stopped you.” she snapped her neck in my direction.
“You let me bite you? What’s wrong with you?”
“I needed to see how far you would go. I could have snapped you out of it.”
“You're a nut.” she got up running upstairs.
Akio’s pov
We decided to eat dinner outside tonight. Riyoshi and Yua had already gone to bed leaving Hikari in the back alone. She was sitting on one side of the sofa reading a book while I was on the other end. She smiled from time to time enjoying her book. Earlier when we held hands I felt something differently. I feel the connection. Being at the VHA for so long you learn a lot about our kind. Some vampires have the ability to sense their soulmate through feeling and instinct. Maybe that’s why I was so protective over her. I was physically drawn to her and couldn't stay away. I barely knew her and was ready to risk it all. Damn maybe Riyoshi was right. Maybe I was whipped.
“Why are you staring at me?” she asked, smiling. I was so focused I didn't realize she had stopped reading and was looking back at me.
“I wasn't.” I mumbled turning away from her.
“Is something bothering you? You were staring at me for like 5 minutes.” she laughed.
“Im fine.” she moved closer now sitting face to face almost a little too close. “Tell me. What’s up?” she asked, concerned. She waited for me to reply and when I didn't say anything she spoke up.
“Were you thinking about me?.” That caught me off guard. By the way she was smiling I couldn't tell if she was joking or not.
“Why would I be thinking about you?”
“Well according to Riyoshi you have a crush on me. Is that why you're out here with me and not inside? Because you want to spend time with me?”. I quickly stood up turning away from her. I could feel my cheeks heating up again.
“Come inside, it's getting cold out here. I don't need you to freeze.”
“I'll come in when i'm done with this pa-.”
“Now!” I told her turning back to look at her. She quickly got up and made her way to the couch.
“I'll go to bed when I'm done with this part. I promise.” I nodded.
“By the way do you know where that dagger I lost earlier went?” She shook her head. “No but I think I smelt blood earlier but I'm not sure.” Hmm if something happened Riyoshi would tell me. I walked into Riyoshi and I’s room being quiet so I wouldn't wake him up. I shut the door behind me and the lights turned on causing me to jump back.
“What the hell. I thought you were asleep.” I told Riyoshi who was staring at me annoyed. Did I do something wrong? Who knows what I did this time to piss him off.
“I had to make sure you didn't try anything with Hikari.” I rolled my eyes at him sitting on my bed.
“Nothing happened so you can go to bed.”
“Aren't you missing something?” He threw my missing dagger on my bed.
“Why are you always getting me into trouble huh?”
“No why are you always getting me into trouble!”Riyoshi snapped and then showed me his shoulder and my mouth just hung open.
“She went straight for my neck then cried about it.”
“I'm sorry man. I was looking for that dagger though.”
“How did this dagger make its way to my neck? That's all I wanna know.
“Hikari doesn’t have the best aim. It must have slipped.”
“Slipped huh. If I punched you and said my fist slipped I would be wrong.”
“I said sorry man why are you trying to assault me?”
“I got cut by a dagger and my blood drank.”I got in my bed and turned away from him pulling the blankets over me.
“Has Haru said anything to you? Has he been acting weird?”
“Umm no not really.” Hikari replied not paying attention to me.
“Ugh he’s so frustrating. He’s hiding something Hikari.”
“Well that’s just how he is.” she replied and continued to fill her basket with snacks. She had time buy chips and candy but not time to listen to me her sister
“Are you even listening?” I sighed heavily.
“Yes but it’s your relationship not mine. If he’s not telling you he definitely isn’t telling me.”
I sighed heavily feeling bad for snapping. “I’m sorry sis.” I poked out my bottom lip and had apologetic eyes.
“You're good. I know you're boy crazy. Here.” She handed me a watermelon flavored popsicle.
“Yes! Thanks.” I loved ice cream. Hikari knew which one was my favorite. I had been eating the same one since we were kids. We left the convenience store and headed back to the train to get home. We walked in silence for the most part with asking each other questions here and there. All of a sudden the air felt cold just like that time we were at the thrift store. I stopped and turned to Hikari who was already looking at me.
“You felt it too didn't you?” she nodded, gripping her bag closer to her. “Let’s take another route.”
We turned in the opposite direction and started walking a bit faster. But we came up on a dead end and when we turned around they were right there, staring at us. There were two boys who looked like they were in high school dressed in all black. One of them I immediately recognized. It was the blue eyed one that I seem to keep running into.
“You're that handsome blue eyed guy from before. Why the hell are you following me like a creep? Are you a serial killer and is he your sidekick?”
“Yua! Why are you like this?” Hikari asked me while laughing nervously. “We should be running past these psychos!”
I don't think the other guy liked what I said as I watched the blue eyes one roll his eyes and look at the other one who looked pretty pissed. Without wasting another second he started running towards us and two knives came flying towards hikari and I. I knew I had to act fast but I didn’t know what to do. I just threw my arm in front of Hikari and a force field went up protecting us from the flying knives. The force field glowed red like my hair.
After the first two knives failed he sent like 5 more. This guy is really trying to kill us. He went back to his partner and whispered to him. “They’re awakened” . I heard him say it but I didn’t know what that meant. I was more considered with the force field I put up.
“ Um Yua do I have to play BTS Run in order for you to actually realize we need to freaking run?!”
“Really? Hikari this is not the time for BTS references.”
“Oh there's always time.”
I rolled my eyes looking back in the direction of the boys who were now both running towards us. I had to do something quick.
I literally blinked and they suddenly stopped but I wasn't doing anything. I looked at Hikari and she seemed very focused then she looked at me and grabbed my hand and ran. We ran away as far as we could. Before stopping. “We have to go home and tell mom and dad.” Hikari said, leaning over trying to catch her breath.
“No we can't involve them.”
“And why not? They're our parents. Aren't they supposed to protect us?”
“Yeah but how do you think they are going to react when their daughters tell them two boys attacked them with knives? Oh and that their kids have these weird powers?”
“What are we supposed to do then?” Hikari argued.
“I don’t know.” I yelled back.
Honestly I was ready to cry because I was terrified but something told me involving them would be a bad idea and I didn’t wanna take the chance.
“Mom and dad will be home in like an hour and half right?” I asked Hikari.
“Yea why?”
“Because we have to run Hkari. We're going home to pack a bag and we're leaving before they come back.”
“But mom is gonna freak. Besides where would we go?”
“Yea but dad is suspect as hell Hikari. You know it. Let's go, we're wasting time.”
I started walking but Hikari just stood there and I walked back over to her. “Hey pull it together we don't have time for this please cry later Hikari.”
Nodding her head she wiped her tears and we ran towards our house. It took us 12 minutes to get home. But we kept moving. I grabbed a backpack and a suitcase. I am not leaving my beautiful clothes here. I refused. I could hear Hikari in her room crying while she packed. At one point it sounded like she dropped something. I went to go ask if she was okay when she came into my room standing in the door frame.
Hikari looked me in the eyes almost pleading with me. Her grey eyes were still sad and full of tears. “We have to try and talk to them Yua we can’t just leave!”
“Hikari --”
“No Yua we don’t even know where we're going or who’s after us. Hell or even why. And don’t forget we now have super powers. We have to wait this out. Please?” she begged.
I sighed but I knew she was right. She had her moments where she can take charge and I guess that was now. “Ok fine but the minute I think we're in danger we’re gone okay.”
“Deal.”
I sat down on my bed letting out a breath I didn't know I was holding. “We’ll figure this out.” Hikari told me, taking a seat next to me. She was right. We needed to find out who those boys were and where these powers came from. I was lost in my thoughts when Hikari’s stomach growled.
I sat next to Yua on the train headed towards Yokohama. We left the church early this morning. Neither one of us knew where we were going. We decided to go somewhere so we can figure out what to do. We just had to be away from our parents. That night after everything that happened Yua still tried to reason with Dad.
"Dad" Yua pleaded, grabbing his shirt sleeve. "I just want you to listen to me for once. There's weird things happening to Hikari and I-."
'Go to bed. I'm too tired to deal with this." He deadpanned, snatching his shirt from Yua's grip. There was no emotion on his face and no sincerity in his voice. I watched him walk past her up to his bedroom.
"Too tired to care about your kids huh? It's like you don't want us here." Yua whispered.
"It'd be easier wouldn't it?" He snapped from the top of the stairs. Maybe things would be easier if we didn't adopt you two. You were suspicious about living her since day one. If it wasn't for you mom I would have given you back."
I shook Yua, waking her up from her slumber. She opened her eyes and yawned. The train stopped and we quickly got off the train. We found a small hotel nearby that was next to a convenience store. We stopped there first to stock up on food and water. Getting back to our room I plopped down on the bed. I took my phone out and stared at the wallpaper. There were no new messages or missed
"No calls or texts?" Yua asked, laying down next to me. I shook my head tossing my phone beside me.
"We left yesterday and our so-called parents don't even care. I would say I'm shocked but I'm really not."
Yua and I ate breakfast that consisted of juice and pancakes. After we ate I took a shower. I took off my jacket and shivered because of how cold the room was. I pulled off my beanie and tossed it in the pile of my clothes on the bathroom floor. Something about it felt off. I quickly turned back and picked the beanie up. This wasn't mine. It was Akio's. I guess when I was packing I grabbed his hat and not mine. I shook my head, placing Akio's beanie on the bathroom counter. Yua isnt gonna let me hear the end of this is she? When I came out of the shower Yua was under the blankets snoring loudly. There was a chair by the window so I decided to sit there and read for awhile. Well attempt to read over my sister's snoring. The sky was gray and cloudy. It looked like it could rain or maybe even snow. A few minutes later it started to rain. I watched the rain fall down and leave droplets on the window. I ran my fingers over the cold glass turning the water into frozen ice. Placing my palm on the window it started to heat up and immediately melt. The window turned hot making me move my hand back. What don't tell me I have fire powers now? The room was cold so I grabbed a blanket off the bed and wrapped myself in it. Before I knew it I had fallen asleep.
Yua's pov
I sat at the edge of the lake watching the ducks take a late night swim. The moonlight beamed down on the water beautifully.
"Yua you're gonna freeze" Haru said from behind me, making me jump. He wrapped his jacket around me and sat beside me. He was still dressed in his training gear meaning he must have just gotten back.
"What are you doing out here anyways? It's late."
"Feeding the ducks." I told him handing him the bag of bread crumbs. He tossed a hand full and the ducks gathered around. It was silent between us but it was a comfortable silence. The only sound came from the ducks happily eating.
"Still thinking about what your mom said?" Haru finally said. I nodded bringing my knees to my chest.
"It's a lot of responsibility. Taking care of my sister and one day taking over the kingdom. I don't know if I'm ready for that yet.
"Well I know once you fully turn you'll be ready. I can already see it when we train?
"Yeah?" I questioned turning to look at him. He nodded. "Your parent's see it too. You've already learned so much. Don't stress about it. When it's time you'll do fine. Plus you have Hikari and I." He smiled.
"Yeah but you're the only one that Will remember any of this" I laughed. "Even when I do see you again I won't know who you are."
"You'll remember one day too. Once you get your memories back you'll remember everything. Including this moment now. that part was true. One day we'll all be able to come back to the castle. There won't be people coming after Hikari and I. Well if they do we'll be ready for them.
I woke up to the sound of rain hitting the window. It was pouring rain. Checking the time on my phone it was 4:52pm. I closed my eyes trying to process the dream I just had.
"Hikari?" I called out. She didn't respond so I sat up and noticed she wasn't in bed with me. I saw her sleep in the chair with the blanket falling off. I picked the blanket off the floor and wrapped her in it. She stirred a little in her sleep mumbling something.
"Hm?" I asked.
"Akio..." she mumbled again.
"So first you steal his hat and now you're having dreams about him" I smirked.
I laid back in the bed starving up at the ceiling. This dream was just like the last one. This time everything was more clear. Maybe what I was seeing was a memory. Everything about it seemed real. Plus Haru and I talked about me not being able to remember. What wouldn't I remember? That night? Or was there more? The last time I tried to talk to Haru about it he got defensive. Maybe that's why. He mentioned that I would start to remember. Did he not want me to? I knew then but now I know he's not telling me something. It would make sense with the way he's been acting lately.
"I knew he was lying."
"Who?" Hikari asked. I opened my eyes and she was standing over me. I grabbed the pillow next to me hitting her in the head with it.
"Why are you watching me sleep?"
"Why'd you hit me?" She pouted.
"Why are you having dreams about Akio?" I shot back.
"What?"
I cocked my head to the side grinning at her, she rolled her eyes and picked up the pillow hitting me with it. After hitting me she sat down across from me. I sat up while Hikari stared at me.
"Why are you staring at me?"
"I'm hungry" I signed, grabbing my phone. "You're always hungry
"Sushi"? She nodded smiling happily.
Riyoshi Pov
"Where the hell are they?!" Haru growled giving Akio and I a death glare. He tried his best to be intimidating but he wasn't. Honestly I don't know what Yua sees in this guy.
"We told you we don't have them.'' I said, stepping closer.
"I don't believe you. Now tell me or get your ass beat."
I chuckled and looked back at Akio. "Do you hear this guy."
"Yea he's pretty delusional and persistent." The younger one said in an annoyed tone.
"Aye! I'm right here and I can hear you." Haru walked up to me grabbing my collar. "Tell me where they are." he demanded.
"So you're like the bodyguard? You suck man, Like legit who trained you?"
I must have pissed him off as his face scrunched up and he launched me as far as he could but his throw had no aggression whatsoever. I landed on my two feet easily. "Now you pissed me off."
"Yo Riyoshi we are really wasting our time on this dude. I kicked his ass like a week and a half ago so imagine what you could do."
I sighed in irritation. "Don't ruin this man I need to let off a little steam anyway." Akio put his hands up and backed up as if I needed more space.
"Ahh lil tough guy huh. Your mommy teach you that?" Haru taunted.
"What are you 11." I said as I pulled at least 5 daggers out of my weapons belt "Any Last words buddy?"
"Yea. I'm not your buddy" Haru spat.
"That attitude makes me wanna shoot you instead but I have no wooden bullets for you today."I sucked my teeth mad at myself. "Too bad you'll die slower I guess." I shrugged then launched all 5 daggers at him. He dodged a couple of them but since I'm savage I threw a few extra that he didn't see. Hitting him in both legs, his Right ankle, his chest and face.
These hits weren't fatal but he won't realize that till later. I ran up and kicked the dagged further into his chest and watched him fall to the ground groaning in pain and eventually passing out. "Damn that was quick"
"He might get back up, he had more fight in him when I was up against him."
"You didn't launch 5 daggers into his pressure points though. And the one in his face will definitely leave a scar.
"Did that one for fun."
"You really scare me sometimes man." Akio said with a straight face "he's not dead tho. I thought you were gonna kill him."
"Nah I really wanna shoot him so he'll have to wait till I finish carving bullets for that."
"Why do you wanna use weapons so bad?"
"Because I cant use them on Levi and I really wanna shoot him."
"Makes sense." Akio nodded in understanding and turned his attention to the knocked out vampire.
"That is just sad. Imagine being that weak Amelia would have our head for a failure this bad."
"You're thinking about Amelia, I'm thinking about our big boss, imagine that."
"You're right. That's worse."
"Let's go find those girls. It's about time we get your favorite hat back." I told him in a stern voice.
"Why is your anger suddenly directed at me?"
"No reason. But if you fuck this up just remember." I motioned my arms as if they were around his neck. "Remember this?"
Akio gulped "That's not right."
I tapped him on his shoulder. "You make the final decision so don't be scared yet." before walking away like I didn't just threaten to put him in a death hold while he stared at me in disbelief.
Hikari and I quickly went back to the hotel to grab our things while the boys waited outside. They ended up taking us to a house on the other side of Yokosuka since now were all being hunted. They have apparently been here before. They told us they had a safe house in case anything happened to them or if they needed to get away. I had so many questions. Like who is the VHA and why are they after us? Where did we get powers from? Why were they trying to bring us to the VHA. What the hell did Riyoshi do to Haru? We now sat at a table in the living room in silence. Riyoshi stared angrily at Akio while Hikari kept her head low.
“I swear Akio-”
“What? Are you gonna put me in another headlock?” Akio asked, annoyed. Riyoshi stood up slamming his hands on the table in front of Akio.
“No this time I might actually kill you. We wouldn’t be in this mess if you weren't so in lo-” Riyoshi yelled but Akio kicked him, shutting him up for a moment.
“Did you really just kick me?” Riyoshi said as his eyes got darker. He grabbed his shirt while Akio smirked.
“Hit me, Nothing new.” He challenged.
“Is anyone gonna tell us why we're here and why there are people coming after us?” I asked attempting to break up the soon to be fight.
“Not right now princess.” Riyoshi said with anger still seething in his voice.
I cut my eyes at Riyoshi. “No, you're gonna explain now. We wouldn’t be running if you hadn’t been chasing us! Our life was fine until you guys waltzed in and ruined everything. Now we have nowhere to go.” That was partially true. We still had to deal with our parents and Saki but if it weren't for them then we wouldn't be where we are now.
Riyoshi aggressively let go of Akio, almost making him fall. “Who are you talking to?”
I looked around then back at him. “I mean you're the only Riyoshi here.” I looked at Akio “Why don’t you explain since your friend seems a bit slow and temperamental.”
They both stared at me. Akio was shocked at my boldness and Riyoshi was triggered. “Wow i’m talking to brick walls.” I looked at Hikari “Sis, we are as good as dead at this point, what are we gonna do?”
“You have a mouth on you.” Riyoshi finally spoke.
Riyoshi smirked at me and walked right in my face. “Let’s get one thing straight alright. I don’t take orders from you so watch your tone next time.”
“Well you see I don’t take orders either so we might have a problem.” and then I smiled in his face which caught him off guard but I wasn’t looking at him I was looking at the ice dagger now floating towards him. The dagger went above my head facing Riyoshi then I heard Hikari speak.
“Get out of my sister’s face or this will be in yours.” Hikari said tauntingly
Riyoshi glanced at Hikari and back at me. Before walking over to a nearby couch and leaning on the leg of it. “Wow you two are something else.”
“We get that alot now are gonna answer my question or not we need answers.” Akio walked over to Riyoshi and tapped him on the shoulder. “Might as well tell them.”
Riyoshi sighed and then looked at me. Obviously he was still triggered. “If you must know we worked for the VHA and were assigned to bring both of you back under a certain timeframe which we failed to do.”
“Bring us back for what and what is the VHA?”
“Well I wasn’t done so be quiet and listen.”
“Sorry.” I mumbled under my breath
“The guy you met yesterday was Levi, an underclassman of ours and very jealous of Akio and I. We don't get along so he jumped at the chance to make us look as though we were trader’s. The VHA is short for Vampire Hunter Association. Our boss wanted us to bring you two back but they didn’t give us a reason why.”
“Ok what does the Vampire Hunter Association want with us?” Then I started to think about the words Vampire Hunter and got even more confused. Riyoshi laughed and Akio laughed with him while Hikari and I just stared blank faced.
“Oh wow.” Riyoshi stopped laughing after registering our faces. “You two are actually serious.” I nodded my head.
“Do you even know what you are.”Riyoshi asks me.
I looked at him confused. “I’m human and in highschool what kind of question is that?”
“So, Is he always this aggressive?” Hikari asks Akio since they were both standing off to the side.
“Is SHE always this aggressive?” Akio answering a question with a question. Hikari just looked at him with a done face and just sat down before answering Akio. “She’s been like that her whole life sadly.”
“Same with him.” Akio answered.
Riyoshi looks at me with a blank expression before sighing. “Damn that’s tuff. I’m sorry to break it to you but you're a vampire princess.”
Hikari, getting excited, nearly flew off the ground and jumped up “ A princess!?”
Akio gives her a dirty look. “It’s just a metaphor, what's wrong with you?” he said, giving Riyoshi a look.
“Is that what you heard?” Yua asked “he said we’re vampires and the only thing you picked up was princess?” she yelled.
“I mean Vampires are pretty cool.” Hikari shrugged.
I sighed and turned back to Riyoshi. “Don’t vampires drink blood? I've never tasted an ounce of blood in my life.”
“You're a pureblood so the blood thirst should start once you fully awaken your powers and from what it looks like you've already started.”
“Is that why I can chug down a gallon of water in minutes?” Hikari chimes in
“Yea she's been extremely thirsty.”
“So she’s already feeling it. But you're not?”
“Nope, but she got her powers first.”
“Well then you’ll have to wait but both of you are pureblood vampires and purebloods are not from around here.”
“Where's your parent’s and how did they not tell you?” Akio asked in a confused tone.
“Well we were adopted when we were five and four years old. Our adoptive parents are human or well I think they are.” I said getting a little sad thinking about my mom. “Was she worried about us at all? We've been gone for almost two weeks and they haven't come to look for us. They didn't even call.”
“Now that I think about it. My boyfriend, what did you do to him?”
“I find it really sad you call that weakling your boyfriend.” Riyosohi shook his head in disappointment. “If you must know he was actually out looking for you and ran into us accusing us as your kidnappers. I mean that was our goal but we didn’t have you yet. He got annoying and I shut him up by putting a few daggers in him.”
I gasped and was about to say something until he continued to speak.
“Actually your boyfriend got real lucky because I wanted to kill him but I didn’t have any wooden bullets for him.”
“Oh my god why would you need wooden bullets for Haru?!”
“Princess please don't tell me you're this slow.” He seemed as if he was going to tell me something until Akio elbowed him.
“What” I asked Riyoshi urging him to finish
“Oh I just love wooden bullets. Saves me a lot of money and I can make them more dangerous.”
“You have some serious issues.”
“Thanks for noticing. I have a knick for spilling blood, that's why I was one of the favorites of the VHA.”
I was slightly disturbed and then I walked over to Hikari. “Keep your distance from that one.”
“I like how you're barely noticing he’s a sociopath.”
“Oh I knew. I just didn’t realize how bad it was. We should run when they fall asleep.” I whispered
“You know we can hear you right? I’m not a sociopath though I’m just not afraid to get my hands dirty. And neither of you are going anywhere.”
“Who made you the boss?”
“I did. You both need us if you're gonna survive anyway.”
“Why should we trust you?”
“Because now we're being hunted by the same people.” He then looked at Akio. “Also for some reason he’s willing to protect your sister which got us here in the first place so you're stuck with us since wherever he goes I go.”
I nodded my head in defeat. “Fine I guess we have no choice then.”
