another vampires smp theory / headcanon thing / character analysis (tbh idk what to call this)...and this one might take a minute to set up

(this is going from Avid's pov)

let's say vampires are nice and don't want to hurt others. what does this mean for Avid?

his whole thing, his shtick, is vampires, mostly finding out who they are and hunting them down and killing them before they turn the entire town. he worked with hunters before, his partner was turned into one, and, he had to kill them.

Shelby and Drift have come to him suggesting that vampires could be nice and that everyone could be friends.

Avid. he won't, or can't, accept this.

he can't accept that vampires could be nice because if they were, if they wanted to be friends to the humans and not destroy the town, then what does that mean for Avid and his past?

if vampires are nice, that would mean that his partner, despite being a vampire themself, was nice.

if vampires are nice, that would mean that his partner died for no reason.

if vampires are nice, that would mean that Avid killed someone he loved in cold blood.

Avid has to believe that vampires are evil creatures of darkness that want to destroy humanity and murder the villagers of Oakhurst. if he started to believe otherwise, even for a moment, the regret and needless murder of his partner might just drive him mad.

"Avid, I don't think you're a vampire, but from my perspective, you do have all the makings of a monster in you."

God, Owen's line from episode 3 hits so much differently now.

With the new information, I think we can safely assume that Avid's partner, Elle, went out to Oakhurst looking to be intentionally turned TO HELP FIND A CURE FOR AVID. Avid's sickness was getting worse. This must have been their last ditch effort. (I'm not sure if we know if they were looking for vampires or werewolves, but Avid seemed to imply she was more feral than a vampire). And then he had to kill her. He had to kill her after she sacrificed her humanity to try and save him. AVID BLAMES HIMSELF FOR HIS PARTNERS DEATH. He already views himself as a monster, so whats turning into a vampire?

This is definitely a big change for Avid's character. It almost makes me want to go back and watch his first few episodes again with this new information in mind. I wonder, does this disregard the parallels between Owen and Avid? Can we call them revengeduo anymore if Avid's original purpose in Oakhurst was never for revenge, but to cure himself?

I'm definitely going to miss the my-whole-personality-is-hating-vampires-and-I-want-revenge Avid we knew before. It was definitely interesting having at least one town member have a personal vendetta against vampires due to their past. However I am super interested to see how Avid's story progresses after this big change.

Okok quick appleish (Apo and Abolish) post because I want to get my thoughts out about these two weirdos. Sprinkled with some post finale headcanons.

Firstly: I don’t think appleish would happen at Oakhurst. If anything at all, maybe “they’re kind of cute I guess,” (which is still stretching it) but they wouldn’t think anything beyond that. Abolish is at work, and he’s not messing around for one second. Apo is not thinking about anyone but Cherri during Oakhurst. Getting back home to her is Apo’s #1 goal and it affects nearly all of her decisions in Oakhurst. So Apo and Abolish just don’t make sense to me during the events of the series. Any feelings for one another occur in 2006, where the two aren’t constantly fighting for their survival and actually have the time to develop feelings.

This is SO LONG so more below the cut v

Before I get more into Appleish, here’s my post finale headcanons for some context:

-After the finale, Apo goes home to Cherri. Personally, I think Cherri accepts them and they live together happily until Cherri eventually passes away due to natural causes

-Heartbroken but already having accepted Cherri’s inevitable death, Apo moves in with Sausage, where they live as roommates (see tags for more about this).

-Apo and Sausage move to New York in 2006. I’m still trying to figure out why exactly. Maybe there’s some sort of architecture related convention or an M book signing there. All I know is they were only planning on visiting at first and never had the intention of staying in NY officially.

-Apo has a dramatic run in with Scott. Neither of them knew the other was even alive, much less in the same city. Apo is PISSED and probably wants to catch the first flight out of the states LMAO.

-Sausage convinces Apo to stay and they meet Drift and Shelby.

-I’m going to be honest, I’m still not sure why exactly Sausage and Apo decide to permanently stay in NY, especially because I feel like it’s more in character for Apo to want to leave immediately and not have to be reminded constantly about Oakhurst. Especially with Scott there. BUT they eventually do stay permanently. Still working this part out…open to suggestions.

-At some point in between all of this, Abolish shows up. I don’t want to say Abolish is the reason Apo decides to stay, because at this point in time, to Apo, Abolish is just “one of the people from the traumatic events of Oakhurst,” and not much else. I’m not sure yet if Abolish is already fully a part of the gang before Apo and Sausage show up, if Abolish reveals himself around the same time Apo and Sausage show up (this one is most appealing to me I THINK?), or if Abolish reveals himself afterwards. Genuinely no clue which of these is best, feel free to lmk your opinion.

OK BACK TO APPLEISH!!!

-The slowest burn. of the century.

-Abolish falls first, and hard. Seeing them after such a long time, he finally revisits the memories he has of her in Oakhurst.

-He thinks back to their argument about the town beacon tower. But rather than irritation, Abolish now feels fascination and amusement. How had she broken down his walls like that? They were the only one during his time in Oakhurst—his entire career, in fact—to make him genuinely rage, to cause his carefully placed walls to tumble like that…why her?

-Apo is absolutely oblivious to Abolishes quiet pining. Shelby and Drift DEFINITELY know. They probably play matchmaker and secretly try to get the two together

-Apo falls slowly. There’s no exact moment where she realizes, but as they spend more time together, Apo comes to enjoy his calm presence.

I could probably write so much more about these two but this post is already so long. Thank you @thegremlininyourcloset for introducing me to these two. I’m so normal.

-Extra: the whole gang visits Oakhurst for the annual visiting of Avid’s grave + meeting Cleo and Pearl. This is Apo’s and Sausages first time in Oakhurst since the events of the finale. I’m sure some angsty stuff goes down. Them both visiting Ren and Martyns graves. Apo finding Pyro’s grave. Fireapples headinhands. Apo probably stumbles across Truffle’s grave that Pyro made deep in the forest.
