Based on: Moonlight Lovers, Raphael Route
Author's notes: I wrote this while playing Moonlight Lovers,A series of otome games inspired by vampires; I remember that the route I loved the most was Rafael's.So I was inspired to create my own character; however, it's been so long since I played that there may be variations in the character,Or that things don't make sense.
☆゚ *And as a final act of love, I will make you hate me* ☆゚
In marriage, it is said that until death do them part, but what if even death is unable to separate them?
This is the story of Amelia, a young noblewoman from the English aristocracy of ancient times, but this story is not about nobility, but rather how love can have fangs.
Amy has always had behavioral problems, as she doesn't behave as society expects a young noblewoman to behave. She adores the arts and dreams of meeting the famous painters of France. But her parents are against it; they tell her to behave and find a husband, since this young woman is 20 years old, and if she doesn't choose, her parents will choose for her.
This situation distresses her, as she feels neither understood nor valued by her parents, since she has always been 'the perfect daughter' in their eyes and in the eyes of society—a mask that is slowly cracking under the pressure that no one but herself placed upon her shoulders.
Unexpectedly, her mother, in a gift meant to make her 'reconsider' her aversion to marriage, takes her to Paris, France, to one of her aunts.
The aunt has a wealthy husband but is unhappy, as her husband sees her only as an object, a trophy, and this reinforces the girl's thoughts and her rejection of the idea of marriage.
Against all odds, one night she decides to run away to see the moon, as she has always loved the stars and especially the moon, which she considers magical and fascinating.
On this trip, she meets a young boy with blue hair, a poor orphan, but with a kind smile. He introduced himself as Rafael, the assistant to a local painter, a handsome and friendly young man, a gentleman as they said in those days. For the girl, it felt like a dream, since the boys she had met with her parents had shown no interest in the arts and hadn't treated her with the slightest respect, but this complete stranger treated her like a fairytale princess...
Their encounters didn't stop there, as both young people were practically mesmerized by each other. Rafael showed her the world of art and the beauty hidden in nature, while Amy taught him about aristocracy and music, things she loved so much.
The two fell in love, that much was obvious. They spent their days and nights talking or exchanging letters. Time passed, and the moment came for her to leave. This saddened both young people deeply, especially Amelia, since she knew her parents were waiting for her with an engagement party—an arranged marriage.
Their encounters didn't stop there. But there was nothing either of them could do, so with heavy hearts they said their goodbyes that night.
And as the young woman had hoped, her parents welcomed her with a grand party, celebrating her engagement to a wealthy young man of her own social standing.
This decision deeply saddened the girl, for that blue-haired young man had stolen her heart in France, and now she was forced to marry a rich man she neither loved nor knew.
When the celebratory waltz was underway, the wealthy young man was about to kiss her and make the engagement official. She tried to pull away, thinking of that young man from France whom she treasured so much in her heart.
As if the gods had answered, a commotion filled the room. It was him! It was Rafael. He had slipped into the mansion, ready to fight for her, even if it meant getting past guards and getting into serious trouble.
Upon seeing him, their eyes met, and they felt as one in that moment. She immediately broke free from her fiancé's grasp to embrace Rafael, shocking the room.
A noblewoman embracing a poor young man—a disgrace in everyone's eyes.
The family's pride was shattered, but so was the fiancé's. How dare she reject him for a poor man? Blinded by rage, he grabbed a dagger from one of the guards and approached the couple, ready to end his fiancée's life.
Rafael noticed this, but there was no time left, so all he could do was shield her with his body, protecting her and taking the fatal blow himself.
The guards quickly seized the fiancé, and the young woman, terrified, screamed for help, knowing nothing of medicine or how to save the young painter who had stolen her heart. But everyone turned their backs on them, unwilling to help someone of a lower status.
Everyone was there except for one person who wasn't invited to the waltz: Cassandra, an ancient monarch who was believed to be a witch, having lived for thousands of years without aging.
Cassandra offered the young woman a deal, one she couldn't refuse.
The deal I offered Cassandra was to save Rafael in exchange for losing her love.
Cassandra was an ancient vampire from a noble house; she could easily save Rafael by turning him into a vampire like herself. But Cassandra desired a pure love she could exploit, a love she could feed on.
Amelia initially refused, but seeing her hands stained with the blood of the person she herself had loved and unwittingly led to this situation, she knew she had no choice. She had to renounce her beloved or lose him forever.
Cassandra carried Rafael's body away under the astonished gaze of all the witnesses, while the young noblewoman didn't even know how to feel about the situation, other than being devastated.
Her family began to disown her for falling in love with someone of such low status, and she could only bow her head in humiliation. The young noblewoman didn't understand why they had to be so cruel. Was it a sin to love another, even if their statuses weren't the same?
Time passed, the years went by, and that young noblewoman lost her sparkle, her essence; everything that made her who she was shattered, turning her into the perfect puppet of her parents and society.
Forced into a mentally abusive marriage, she now had to hide not only her emotions but also the bruises inflicted by her husband.
When the young woman was around 40, she was extremely ill, with little hope of living, and so she decided to convince her husband to return to France before the tragic day.
It was night, and she enjoyed the scenery, nostalgic for the atmosphere of Paris, wishing her life hadn't taken this path.
Suddenly, she heard a sound, a voice she thought she had forgotten, and there, before her.
Was that same young man from so many years ago.
Her heart felt alive again; it was as if her own life had returned to her.
The obvious couldn't be denied: the young man was no longer human. His deathly pale skin and fangs were proof of that.
But above all, a blue bandage over his eyes, a sign of blindness.
A thousand questions sprang from the young woman's lips, but they were silenced by a kiss.
A kiss under the moon, a passionate kiss, yet full of feeling.
A kiss in the same place where it all began 28 years ago. They swore many things to each other that night, shared words and loving desires.
They both knew their time was short, but even so, they decided to sit on the grass, enjoying the warm feeling of being together, of being by each other's side again.
Amelia told him how her life had been, and Rafael did the same, a vampire and a human speaking as equals, as lovers under the moon.
Rafael told her about the hell he had lived through under Cassandra's control, as she had manipulated him for years to serve her, even driving him to blind himself.
The noblewoman was stunned by this, feeling immensely guilty. She wanted to confess the truth to Rafael, that she was responsible for his suffering, but a disturbance in the village caught her attention.
It turned out that Amelia's husband was looking for her, and he was furious, knowing that his wife had been seen with another man near the forest.
The girl immediately told Rafael to leave, fearing for his life. If they found out he was a vampire, she couldn't even imagine what would happen.
Rafael clearly refused, not wanting to lose her again.
Desperate with fear, Amelia confessed that she was the one who had told Cassandra to save him that day.
Rafael was clearly enraged, for he had entrusted everything to Amelia and felt betrayed.
But his love for her was stronger, so he offered to turn her into a vampire, to finally live together, as their hearts had so longed for.
The danger drew ever closer, and the young woman didn't know what to choose. Should she abandon her entire life for love, or return and endure what society forced upon her?
Her decision was interrupted by her husband; she was going to choose Rafael!
However, her husband's attack was blocked by Rafael's sword. The situation, like a vision of the past, paralyzed the girl.
For a moment, she was afraid—afraid of the unknown, afraid of what awaited her in eternity.
And someone else made that decision for her.
Against all odds, Rafael knocked the noblewoman's husband unconscious, removing his blindfold and revealing his white, blind eyes. He knew Amelia would hate him for doing this, but if it was necessary to keep her safe, he would do it.
So he bit her neck, suffering greatly from her justified rejection, betraying her trust.
Rafael ran away that night with Amelia, fleeing to Germany.
Neither has forgiven the other for the betrayals they suffered that night. They love each other, but they cannot forgive the pain caused by their mistakes.
The two continued living their lives for years, together yet separated at the same time, they are two souls condemned to love each other, yet unable to be together, souls united by something as simple and common as love, that which torments them and prevents them from letting go of the past and forgiving each other.
Amelia kept her word, always staying by his side, loving him despite now feeling bound to eternity, something she deeply hates.
And Rafael also kept his word. Loving Amelia while still human, and as a final act of love, he made her hate him so he could save her.
