Just watched the first Supernatural episode with VampTara Amber Benson in it. I have no desire whatsoever to watch any more of the show. Thought about watching the other ep she's in, or the one with Marsters and Chase, but couldn't do it.

1) As a general thing, too much dudebro-ness. As far as I can tell, the show is basically Buffy, if Xander and Riley were the only major characters, and the angst was turned up even further.

2) As another general thing, the show at this point is clearly set up as Humans vs. Everything Else. Apparently this ep is actually the turning point where that starts to let up, but that's still one of my biggest pet peeves in (Urban) Fantasy, and I doubt that the "Humans are somehow entirely distinct from everyone else" vibe is ever completely let go. Actually, even a few minutes poking around on Wikipedia shows that they don't let that distinction go.

3) Amber Benson was clearly doing a one-shot, and wasn't all that VampTara Lenore could have been, and she was still one of the best actors in the ep.

4) Also, there was this other hunter in the ep, this black dude. Seems like a decent guy at first, and is presented as a total badass. But then he goes after this vamp, has the perfect setup, gets the drop on the vamp, should have everything under control, it's been established that he's got plenty of experience at this and is more than good at it. But somehow the tables get turned, and he only lives because the Good Ol' (White) Winchester Boys are there to save his (black) ass. And later he's revealed to be hyper-violent, "animalistic", and giving in to his "darker side", and again, it's only the intervention of the Good Ol' (White) Winchester Boys that stops him from killing the poor white girl who was just trying to take care of her family even if she was a vampire. (Quote marks aren't indications of actual quotes from the show, but the implications were pretty fucking clear. I could probably pull actual supporting quotes from the ep if I were willing to subject myself to it again.)

Basically, the only good thing I can see here is that is gives us a source for VampTara gifs and pics.
