At least she has Death by her side. Without the Primal Beast, Nier would’ve certainly been killed by Haughst Isle’s deleterious denizens. Monsters the likes of which she’s never seen, but which all share a single-minded bloodthirstiness that forces the pair’s hand.
“It’s okay because they’re only monsters, isn’t it...?” Nier asks, standing over the creature’s body.
“It’s as you say,” answers Death, examining the blood on her digits. “There’s nothing wrong with defending oneself, is there? Especially against... monsters such as these...”
Nier finds the courage to lean in just a little closer to the corpse. “I’ve never seen monsters like this before, but they’re all over this island... I-I wonder if the Captain would know about them...”
Sighing, Nier reaches up to wipe the blood from her own face as Death dissipates into a cloud of dark mist. It seems that there’s less monsters inside the island’s buildings, so if she can find a way back in, then perhaps she’ll also find a modicum of safety.
It is at that point, however, Nier realizes she’s not alone. There’s a child watching her.
Giving a small start, Nier thinks of what to say, of what to do. It should be fairly easy to explain what’s happened, but something in her mind simply doesn’t see the point. It would be too stressful to try and travel with a companion.
Nier simply bows her head. “E-excuse me...” she mumbles. And then she turns and walks away. Surely the child can fend for themselves.
