Fuuuck yeah, a couple of gay dudes, lying in the snow and not immediately freezing to death because they're probably secretly aliens.
I've done nothing but make The Thing fanart for a week straight now, someone do something.

i've been thinking about the Thing choosing specifically Norris and/or Palmer to infect first. the more i think about it, the more it makes perfect sense. Norris is quiet, soft-spoken, and it can be argued well-liked (nobody except himself had any objections to him taking over as leader). he also had a heart condition, which some of the others could be privy to. thus, his perceived threat level would be low. it would make sense the Thing would want to become him. same goes for Palmer, but in a different way. the Thing observed he likes to keep his headphones on, he is often zoned out and under the influence of drugs. the Thing would recognize that it would make sense to start with him, as any behavior not deemed 'standard or normal' for a human would be excused if it was him.
neither of them also did any essential work, or at least work that it would need to do constantly - Palmer was one of two mechanics, so it could theoretically put all the work on Childs, and Norris was a geophysicist, nothing THAT essential to every day operations. perfect to just hang around and look out for information / victims.

He supposed he knew. Knew that the heart in his chest wasn’t his, though still as faulty as his was. Knew it would give out soon. Knew he’d be revealed. Knew he wasn’t himself. Knew he was dangerous.
-----★-----
Character study of Norris from The Thing, mixing in elements from the novelization and original script.
Everyone wants to talk about the crew exploring each other's bodies and what not but I think we're forgetting that Palmer and Norris canonically explored each other's bodies. I mean it's not in the sexy way y'all clearly intend but one was inside the other. We just don't know who.
What should we do with Vance Norris (The Thing)?
Hug
Kiss
Marry
Kill
yeah.
Had the most normal reaction to watching The Thing (1982) for the first time: Had a sex dream about transmasc Vance Norris, be gay about him all day, then do a study on his hands.
I am nothing if not predictable.
