The Boom Booms

The Boom Booms hold a special place in my west coast heart. I was lucky enough to get introduced to this talented group of Vancouverites by my dad, who brought my sister to his best friend's house party in East Van. The live music quickly attracted the entire neighbourhood, and turned the gathering into a bloc party reminiscent of the video. Let's just say my dad is way cooler than I will ever be. These boys have such incredible stage presence that everyone in that alley, young and old, was dancing and having a great time.

In 2011, after releasing their their debut album, Hot Rum, the Boom Booms earned a spot in the 2011 Peak Performance Project, BC's most prestigious contest for emerging musicians. They won second place and received $75,000, which helped fund a successful tour of Brazil, playing to hundreds of people in the Amazon, Rio and Manaus. While on tour, the band fell in love with the Brazilian culture, music and people. To raise awareness of the mass deforestation that is occurring and socio-economic implications it has on the people, this sextet created a series of videos. These boys are awesome and to see them live, check them out July 5-7 at the Keloha music festival in Kelowna.
