@farfromthstars tagged me in this writing ask meme, so:
What is your total posted word count on AO3?
It’s 217,320 - which is honestly less than it should be, but I’ve deleted a lot of fics off AO3, and I also don’t publish a lot of fics.
How often do you write?
I go through phases with it, sometimes I’ll write thousands of words a day, sometimes I won’t write for months.
Do you have a routine for writing?
I am honestly THE WORST when it comes to planning anything, and don’t have anything in the form of a plan. However, I want to do NaNiWriMo this year and so I’ve been working really hard on like.. prepping my novel before I actually start to write it, lmao.
What are your favorite kinks/tropes/pairing
In terms of favourite kinks, I don’t really have one. Not to sound like an absolute fucking granny but reading smutty fanfiction just comes off as kind of awkward to me now... I don’t know. I used to like ones that had a bit of power play, and also humour.
Tropes. I love, love, love anything to do with heists and crime, anything to do with amorality and both characters being kind of bad. Dirty cops, villains, sleeping with the enemy? Enemies to lovers? All that shit really drives my engine. I also have a mahoosive soft spot for zombie apocalypse AUs. Hell, any kind of post apocalyptic situation just... I love it. I also like magical realism.
My favourite pairing, possibly forever, is Arthur/Eames from Inception, I don’t think any pairing will ever have as much of a place in my heart. They’re just... everything I care about wrapped up in one very neat package. Other pairings I’ll always care about a little are: Jack Harkness/Ianto Jones (Torchwood), Charles Xavier/Erik Lehnsherr (XMEN), Arthur Pendragon/Merlin (BBC Merlin) and Joseph Chandler/Emerson Kent (Whitechapel)
Do you have a favorite fic of yours?
All of my epistolary fics, (Inbox: (1) New Email, Twisted; Lightning Young and To: From:) are some of my best work. I (and not to toot my own horn) am one of the few fic writers that actually pushes this genre to its limits, and I really think that the research I did for Inbox: (1) New Email elevates it a little.
Your fic with the most kudos?
Confess has 636 kudos, which is typical because the one shots that take no effort to hammer out always get the most attention, haha. In all seriousness, though, it’s fun and cute and I can see why people like it. Even if I find it a bit clunky now.
Anything you don’t like about your writing?
I am suuuper bad at getting the feeling of settings right. Like, things always seem really clear in my head so I don’t spend time explaining them that well and I find (especially with original fiction) that it can be really hard to get an actual grasp of my characters appearance and the space around them.
I also feel like I haven’t settled on an actual, “style” of writing yet? I like distinctive writers: Chuck Palahnuik, the Brontes, Patrick Ness, and so I’d like to be able to channel that sort of, “Even if you don’t know who wrote it, you know” kinda thing. You know?
Now something you do like?
I am really good at dialogue. It’s part of the reason why I like epistolary so much, because it’s almost entirely based on stuff that people would say, and I don’t have to worldbuild at all hahaha. In all honestly, though, dialogue is where I’m most comfortable and where I just get to have the most fun when writing, which is why I managed to bang out 50k of a fic that’s got a huuge ensemble when I was like, sixteen.
Fun story time: the reason that I like dialogue so much is because when I started writing fanfcition, (Namely: marauders and fucking frerard), a lot of the dialogue I used was stolen from actual conversations with my friends - in fact, we all used to write fanfiction and if someone said something funny it was common to ‘claim’ it for your own story. So my writing was also kind of founded in dialogue.
I tag @vanqoh because she’s the only one I can think of who still writes fics hahahaha. Thank you so much for tagging me Pia!!
