25. What are your country's views on LGBT+ rights?It’s ironic that you asked me this, Aimée, because I’m sure you know better than anyone - what with eating that Ashers cake with your tiny gay hands.

Anyway, I’m from Northern Ireland. You probably haven’t heard of it (not ‘you’ specifically, Aimée, you as the collective people of tumblr who may or may not be reading this), but NI is the space in between the UK and Ireland. 

It’s the only place in the UK to not have legalised gay marriage. What’s that? You thought gay marriage was legal in the UK? Yeah, so do most people. It’s not, though. I cannot marry the person I love if they’re of the same gender, whoo boy, isn’t that great?! 

Not only that - but most of our largest political parties are aggressively anti LGBT marriage. In fact, they’re pretty anti any progressive rights in general. Recently a local bakery refused service to a lesbian couple and it became international news because Northern Ireland tried to pass a law that you could justifiably discriminate on any LGBT person just for being LGBT. 

As much as I myself am surrounded by wonderful, openly accepting and out LGBT people - and as much as my family have always accepted me, Northern Ireland is such a political fucking disaster that I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they held a referendum akin to the Republics, and the people collectively voted against gay marriage. But, you know. 

I live in hope that it will get better, there’s enough people looking to positively change Northern Ireland that all we can really do is hope and pray. Three elections in less than a year isn’t helping anyone, though.
